This is for those that love a mystery (or a train wreck!)

Warning! NSFPP (Not Suitable for Porsche Purists) -
If you are prone to be a bit squeamish, divert your eyes!

So, being polite, and not wanting to completely hijack the "Funky Flywheel" thread on the main discussion forum, several folks expressed curious interest in an engine photo I posted there, and inquiring minds wanted to see more. This post/thread was originally posted on this forum in 2008, but had links to external photos that no longer exist. I thought the photos were worth saving in my personal horde. Subject is a home-brew electronic fuel injected 912 engine with a Sportomatic Auto Stickshift. Here are the first 10 of the complete collection:

Jerry, who the hell did that? What was it used in? How long did it work? I see he had a welder and doesn't like cheesehead screws. So much to say, so little time.

Man! I am thankful that thing didn't show up at my shop for a valve adjustment or flywheel seal. I would have sent him down to Larry Markhams! Did he really weld all the shroud pieces together? What a nightmare!

I think the "weld" is actually goopy sealer.
I've seen another engine like that.
