Actually, the trail is only 211 miles long Brian. The difficulty is, as you doubtless discovered, that at the end of the John Muir Trail, the summit of Mt. Whitney, you have to descend 11 miles to Whitney Portal, the nearest road, unless you can arrange to hurt yourself badly enough to merit helicopter transport. Most opt for the walk. So, you shorted yourself - you actually walked 222 miles.

It is indeed the trip of a lifetime. Congratulations to you Brian and best wishes.

Hiking the John Muir Trail

Congratulations Brian.

I only know one other person who has done it and he took 10 years to hike it in segments.

Quite an accomplishment to be proud of.

September 15, 2008: Fat old man atop Boundary Peak. Photos of Jenny's Ranch, the "marker" for the turn off to the dirt road to the trail head included free of charge. Jenny is no longer in "business," but, the property is for sale for you entrepreneurs.

See: http://tinyurl.com/Boundary-Peak for photos

See: http://www.network54.com/Forum/198362/m ... 15%2C+2008 for a trip description.
