Saw this bad boy gobbling up the competition at the Wine Country Classics this year.
Cobras, Listers all tasty treats. Don't know what powers it but I can't wait to
see the 'full size kit' that is claimed to be available.
Not a Porsche, a Piranha
Corvair power... sounds pretty cool with 6 pipes, huh?
They were designed for production to show how plastics could be utilized in car manufacture but only a handful survive. The coupe was used in "The Man from U.N.C.L.E."
AMT sponsored the sports racer to promote the kit. It was driven by ARRC competitor Dick Carbajal of Phoenix, AZ.
I presume he knew AMT's designer Gene Winfield since that's where they were built.
I even had the AMT model, so when I saw the racer at the Historics last year it was a big surprise to me that it still existed. Here's some history links... check out the dragster!
There's also photos of one slightly restyled by OSI with Renault Gordini power.
