Original Porsche supplied hole plugs

#1 Post by Paul Hatfield »

Does anyone know who sells these?
I need some (4) for a non-356 application.
Assume they came in different sizes. I need ones that have a head 15mm in diameter like the one shown. Stoddard discontinued this size. Part # 999-703-048-40

Thanks!

P.S.- Used would be ok as well. I just hate to bother people like Jim at Easy for such a small sale with plenty of time spent hunting down the part.
Thanks

Paul if these are the ones used to plug the deck lid luggage rack holes, I got my from Terry Morehouse at International Mercantile. They are close to the originals. You can not buy the "original" NOS Porsche 356 plugs now.

Hi Roy and Paul
Do you guys know what size/supplier the plugs are that fit the three holes on each side when the the grilles are removed for installation of the Hella 128 fog lights? The ones sold by a few of our vendors are not the correct size.

Alex-
Correct ones are not available to my knowledge.
I personally believe they are supposed to be the same as the ones that fill the European reflector hole beneath the rear bumper.
I have seen two original owner cars with the original rubber in the hole beneath the rear bumper- and they were different years and different construction.
The ones I remember best are still on Jack Keyes 65 Cab. He is the original owner and the plug back there is actually two pieces. An outer ring and a center plug pushed in tightly. When assembled, it looks like one piece and he always thought it was one piece. Until he carefully removed it for painting and found out otherwise.
Anyway, I think that the ones you are asking about are the same part.
Other opinions may vary.

On my sunroof coupe, the plugs fell out during its normal use so I do not know what they look like. I used the glove box buffers in its place. They fit and "look" right for the application. I believe the originals where flatter.

The PET says there are four luggage rack holes that this plug is used for. Nearby is a pair of threaded holes that look to be about the same size as the luggage rack holes. I ask because when I disassembled my 1964 356SC engine lid, I had five of the small plugs. Assuming that there had been six plugs at one time, so I am trying to determine if plugs go into the other holes described above.

Also, does a plug go into the four larger unthreaded holes directly below the threaded luggage rack holes on the frame?

Thanks.

Paul:

You said these aren't for a 356 application. Are they for an early 911/912 bumper guard bolt plug?
