Terrific photo of a Speedster. Excellent spot for a classic car photo.

That's Craig's car? I've never seen sound deadener in a Speedster.
Not griping if it was added; hell mine has a 901 'box, just asking

Thanks Jon, we are lucky to call SoCal home.

Yes Ron, the red Speedster is Craig's car. Lots of good stuff going one with that one, check out those widened 16's. We probably won't here from him for a few days. Pulled from the Weber thread:

Hey Trev,
Thanks for the kind wishes. Jet-lag is always a bitch, no matter how often you do it, but we arrived safe and sound, only an hour late, ready for this years' adventure. We'll keep you up-to-date...

Ron, when Ray passed, I bought Speedy from his wife Anne, and that's the way it came. Along with a zillion other mods, great and small, which all add up to its lovable character. Of course I've added/changed a zillion more, and it's now a very fun ride...

My best to you all, Craig

Picnic radios seem to be "the" accessory to have this week at the shop. Pretty cool with the built in speaker and antenna. I do sometimes think these cars talk to each other and get together (as people do). I just don't know how else to explain it.

Definitely not mounting it close to the driver, or else you aren't going to be shifting into 1st and 3rd.

Craig,

Ray drove that Speedster in the Copperstate 1000 some time in the 1990s. Remember seeing it and finally meeting him after having him do several engines over the years, starting back when he lived in Altadena.

Hey Steve,
The first time I ever saw Speedy was 1992 at a 356 "Treffen" in Santa Barbara. New paint, new upholstery, old car, not much "stock". Looked great, in need of a lot of finishing work. As was normal for Ray, traded machine work for everything. Prior history I have no idea, neither did Anne, but someone mentioned "Arizona".
Ray was a great guy, a big "gallute" farmer-type, smart, caring, really nice friend. I met him when I was still in high-school. He is still, obviously, missed...

The brother to Steve McQueen's Speedster was in not too long ago, complete with Rudge wheels and coupe seats.

Trevor,

Thanks for all the photos.

My only 356 has been a 59 T-2. I am not that familiar with C cars. Are those bumber guards on the sunroofs in your first photos considered overriders?
I thought the term was reserved for the thinner round bars which ride horizontally over the bumpers, such as found on T-2s.

Always learning,
John

John - I would agree that horizontal = over rider, vertical = bumper guard. At least in today's terms. More discussion is found here: http://porsche356registry.org/356talk/1/12584.html.

Hey Craig! - Great to hear from you, looks like you're having a spectacular time. How was the Porsche Museum in Gmund? That one is on my bucket list along with the Prototype Museum in Hamburg. http://www.prototyp-hamburg.de/

Jack's been steady with work at the shop. He just finished up a resto on a 65 cab about a month ago. The Dana Point Concourse was just this past weekend. Kerry made his special Bloody Mary's, which were perfect and Jack handled some judging responsibilities. I would imagine it's kind of like jury duty for him. :D His civic responsibility to the 356 community.

Hey guys, thanks for the pics and all regarding Jacks shop. The info and pics regarding the steering shaft extender was enlightening. Thanks Trevor, for sharing that.

With all the open sunroofs, drop tops and shiny paint, the sea gulls from miles around must zero in on Jack's shop for their morning practice runs...

I will admit, I have never been there despite living a few miles away.

KTF,
Rick

Hey Rick,

My pleasure, it's fun to share what is going on at the shop. Always seems like something different and I'm sure I only get pics of a small percentage of it.

I'm there most Friday afternoons. If you can sometime, take the 58 down PCH and swing by, we've got cold beverages in the fridge and are always up for a good conversation regarding 356's. I'd love to see your Speedster.
