YOM LICENSE PLATES IN STATES OTHER THAN CALIFORNIA

#1 Post by JOEL JENSEN »

Anyone have the rundown on what states have a YOM program besides California ? I know Minnesota does. How about Illinois ? I may have some 356 plate pairs available for those locations.

New York does. These are the same plates that were on it when I left the dealer's lot back in April 1974.

Joel,
Massachusetts has a YOM program also. License plates must be checked by the DMV before they can be used. If the plates are badly worn, they will not be accepted. Also if the plates have been restored or the number on the plate is already in service,(even on a 2008 license plate), you can not use it.
If someone wants to have a plate restored in MA, they must do it after the plate has been registered. Regards, Bob

Arizona has one as well.Really great rules and easy to do. If the plate number is not currently being used, they will issue it to the car and no special fees. Just basic registration costs of $19- per year!
New Jersey on the other hand does not so I'll be keeping my AZ plate.

Maryland does. But while I can find info about historic and street rod tags on their website I can't find any about the YOM program. http://www.marylandmva.com/

You have to register you vehicle for historic (Class L) or street rod (Class N) tags and keep those tags current. Under that you can then register YOM tags, and it's a small 1-time fee. They should be in reasonable condition and you need both tags if two were issued for that year and vehicle class. You can then drive displaying the YOM tags. You need to be carrying your registered Class L or N tags with you but they don't have to be displayed alongside the YOMs. No restrictions on "number in use" since the Class L or N tags are your official tags.

All of my vintage cars and most of the motorcycles have YOM tags registered for them. The eventual YOM pair for my '64 SC are the period historic plates displayed in my avatar - that's not photoshopped! :D
