I assume you mean "more expensive than a Speedster". In that case it's very simple: Rarity. No one said it was better, though I'm sure others may believe it is.

Considerably rarer. I saw that red one in person and I can tell you, that in my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful cars I have ever seen.

Loaded with an Okrasa motor so not that far off from a Normal from the same era.

Yes I know it is rarer than a speedster but it is no rarer than a pre A speedster and being non unitary construction would definately not handle better than a speedster although it may go as well as a normal in a straight line with that engine in it.

I agree that they are a beautiful car as I have seen one here in Australia about 5 years ago at the 356 parade and had never seen one before. I just did not think that they would be worth soooooo much. I guess exclusivity has a price but for that sort of price I would rather have a pre A speedster or split screen cab any day and have change left over for a nice coupe.

I saw two Pre A speedsters just today at a local all german car show. I looked all around, but no D&S's I'm afraid

I suspect there are less than 15 D&S's in the world. How many Pre A speedsters are around?

Not really fair to speculate regarding how they may or may not handle considering nobody here has likely driven one.

Still a beauty of a car.

A more equitable comparison to 356's would be America Roadsters, much closer in numbers produced and also a special coachbuilt.

Well, it is vw underneath so it would drive like an open VW and an early one at that. And we all know that vw's as good and charming as they are do not handle like a Porsche. Don't get me wrong I love VW's and own a few myself and love the look of these D&S cars but seriously, 250 large for a VW convertible? I am still staggered no matter how rare they are.

Staggering prices--sort of like $3000 tool kits and $550 pot metal door handles. Honestly, the prices for some of this stuff is incredible and hard to believe.
