I am buying a new Monitor... Which One ??

#1 Post by Rich Simmons »

Off Topis,
I am looking to buy a new computer monitor.

I have been looking at anywhere from 20" to 30 "

I prefer NEC SONY or quality brands...

Any words of wisdom or tips on which one would be a good choice ?

also Which size is best.... I am leaning towords a 24" but I am afraid that I might

lose some picture quality as compared to a 20' ?

thanks ... Rich SF CA

Depends on what you do with it...

Not all LCD's are created equal. The cheaper ones don't produce nearly a full range of colors. I bought a 24" Dell and was pretty disappointed. It's fine for spreadsheets but the colors were terrible. I do some photography as a hobby and wanted a top quality monitor. I settled on the NEC LCD2690WUXI.

It's an outstanding monitor. They also have a 24" version:

Why not buy one of the 356 monitors?

I rely on Cnet for their reviews and evaluations, and they have been spot on to this point. Their top five LCD monitors:

With my 60 year old eyes, the new Envision 22" I got from Frye's Electronics for $189 after rebates, seems to work just fine. I have a feeling I'm one of the less computer- literate members of the registry, however. Jim Slawson SF Bay area

Check the warranty before you buy. Most LCD displays have a 3-year warranty. I bought a ViewSonic last year and it died in a little over a year. When I checked on warranty I found out that it only had a 1-year warranty.
