Hebmuller #6 was purchased by a Prince in Indonesia and contracted me to do a HIGH $$$ restoration/rebuild Okrasa engine for his newly aquired coachbuilt. He already purchased an Okrasa engine for his 1957 Karmann Ghia from me previously and was so happy with it, he commissioned me for another one! He also has a 1954 Pre-A coupe that needs a 1500cc 2pc. engine that im also going to restore/rebuild. Meanwhile, enjoy photos of his previous purchase for his '57 Ghia. Cheers! Mr. Okrasa 8)
These photos below show the 1949 1300cc Okrasa engine coming together for Hebmuller #6!

Didn't know much about Okrasa or Hebs , so did quick Google search. For those in the dark on this stuff, like me:
Hebmullers VW Type 14A manufactured 1948-1953. Interesting story. Wiki has a quick summary. Plus the Hebmuller registry has great pics.
Okrasa: "Oettinger Kraftfahrtechnische Spezial Anstalt" was the name of the company founded by Gerhard Oettinger in 1951.The company specialised in performance parts for the VW engine and soon some of the VW based coachbuilders such as Dannenhauer & Stauss and Rometsch were using Okrasa engines in their sports cars.
Thanks, Dan, for posting this and doing the research that I should've done. My only excuse is that I thought that Joe Ruiz's sign off was his inside joke and not his passion. Now I know better. Always nice to learn something new at this stage in the game. Interesting.
By the way, Joe, terrific work! 8) That Hebmuller engine is a work of art! Great restoration!
Jack Staggs wrote:Joe, was Okrasa available when Heb's were new?
No! Okrasa engines nor kits were available when the Hebmuller was first introduced. They were not even
available for sale to the general public until years after the demise of the Hebmuller factory when it
burned down in the early 50's. Aftermarket products are just that.....AFTERMARKET. They are
made/produced when there is a need for added speed, looks, performance or ???
Incidentally, the word OKRASA is an acronym for: Oettinger Kraftfahrtechnische Spezial Anstalt
which translated from german means: "Oettinger strength-driving technical specially institute".

Sweet, Joe. Was just talking about you on Friday over in Globe, AZ. Was recalling that drive up the Eastern edge of Arizona when you drove the Enzmann. Still have that hubcap??
Always wondered how an full east/west orientation would appear. Rings all my bells, fills all the sails, thank you for posting. Wonderful sense of organization and aesthetic symmetry. Wonderful effort for the senses to contemplate. Interesting arched filter tubes.
I had a couple of people ask me if this engine actually runs. Here are a couple of photos of the engine running.
Note Denzel heads in background. Cheers. Mr. Okrasa 8)
Joe,
So looking at the photos above the engine has two oil coolers, one standing up inside the two piece cowl and one made from wound copper tubing placed in front of the cowl air intake ? For cooling off all those extra horses I suppose. A real work of art and clever too.
Joe, are those fuel lines and oil cooler lines all copper? Free-standing copper will work-harden and then crack from vibration. I have seen it happen on my father's car. I would hate to see zero oil pressure or a fuel fire on one of those beautiful engines you built. Does he put miles on them, or mostly for show?

Hi Steve. Yeah.....I remember that run. That was the "White Mountain Drive" / May 2003. I spun out twice and the second time I hit a huge rock on the side of the
road and dented my hub cap. Good times! I sold the car to a collector in Europe last year. I have too many cars.....Enjoy! 8)
