Projekts, Lists, big motors and the future.

#2 Post by Chris Markham »

This is a fun list. From Ludvigsen or maybe Conradt?

take a look at some of those early motors. A 16 cyl, 19.7 Liter (typ 72). Or the 44L V12 for Mercedes in '39. Throw that out at your friends the next time they start talking about the great 16 cyl spyder they saw at R.R.III.!

And it looks like this list is about 12 years out of date. There's no 987, 996, 997, Carrera GT, nor trucks nor future sedans.

But going back to the big engines...what about a 20cyl based on a mating of the GT engines? Can you say "crank whip"? But in a "W" format ala the VW/Bugatti?

Of course, the pinnacle will be in a few years (maybe a decade) when we go full-circle back th the inspiration of the Lohner-Porsche Projekt #1. The decendents of Dr Ing Ferdinand will go back to putting electic motors out by (probably inboard of the suspension of) each of the four wheels.
