Senna the legend - the movie

#1 Post by Randy Mittelstet »

This post may need to be moved but he might have driven at least a Porsche. For those who haven't seen this movie about perhaps the greatest Formula 1 driver ever and those who want to see it again, it will be on the Velocity channel April 27 at 7pm central. (double check the time)
Not exactly a date movie.

Great movie. Quite a story, exposes much of the garbage that went on, and probably still goes on in F1 racing.

I originally referred to this as a movie. It is actually a documentary which makes it even more intense and factual.

Randy:
Thanks for the heads up. My recorder is set. The last time I recorded it the recording stopped before the end. I hope it works this time.

What I found odd was that someone apparently followed Senna around with a video or film camera everywhere, literally constantly, for several years. Not in the making this film, mind you, but someone in his entourage felt every moment of his every day needed recording, and then after his death they used all that available footage in this film "Senna". Not even Elvis was that thoroughly documented. He was truly a sort of god in Brasil.

If you're going to set your DVR, set it for an hour earlier as well, when the hour-long "Hunt vs. Lauda" documentary is televised.

Alain Prost had driven the TAG engined McLarens in the '80s and I aligned with him for that reason. Because of that allegiance, when he battled with Senna, I looked upon Senna as the "bad guy." Only upon watching the movie on Netflix did I learn of some of the reasons that things happened as they did and it changed my mind.

Two memorable events in the movie: 1) How he kept getting screwed by Jean-Marie Balestre in manipulations to help fellow Frenchman Prost in the championship run 2) That magical Christmas television show with the blonde mistress of ceremonies who asked him what he wanted for Christmas.

thanks for the pics Freddy........

Besides Senna's superhuman racing expertise, I most admired the character he displayed and verbalized when he was robbed of several victories ( world champion no less) The racing highlight of the film for me was his first major race, in a downpour, passing a car when it had to be impossible to see through the water flying onto his visor. He said it best when he described one race as not really being conscious of what he was doing.

As for Alan, when he signaled to have a race stopped "due to rain" and the real reason was to avoid being beaten by Senna shows his lack of respect for the sport as well as his true character.

how he could focus on driving over 200 mph and knowing that Xaxu was waiting for him is beyond my comprehension!
