Aetna Blue

#18 Post by Mark Hackney »

This is my 1960 BT5 Coupe (Super). I haven't seen this color very often. The color is original but the car was repainted in 1988. The previous owner said it was painted by a shop in Sacramento. They apparently thought the gas tank needed paint as well.

My good buddy Bill Rohrer has a beautiful T-6 Aetna Blue cab and it is stunning. Again, great color.

I believe that is a VW color, Pastel Green.

Re: Smyrna Green

Russ_Hibbard wrote:Mark, are you sure that's Smyrna 6210? It looks more like Auratium 5712, an earlier T5 color.
I know lighting and camera can both have big effects on perceived color.
Here's three in Smyrna: one off the web, one at Monterey last year (outside, bright sun) and mine,
dreadfully locked inside where only un-natural fluorescent light reaches the paint.

All three of these appear to have more blue in the color than your example.
I know mine is correct as we had both original Glasurit chips and some original finish inside measured to ensure a perfect match.

Mr. White, any chance of accurately posting some scans of your collection of factory color charts?

I saw a sign in the window of the car at Monterey that said it was painted in correct Fjord Green, not Smyrna Green. My impression was that Fjord Green was a good deal darker than Smyrna Green.

Smyrna green vs Fjord green

#26 Post by Jim Johnston »

Yes, Fjord green is a good bit darker than Smyrna green. Here are a few new shots of my just restored Fjord green Speedster in outside light. The color was triple matched from original samples from three cars. See my previous post in this thread for more photos under different lighting conditions.

1965 Porsche 356SC, original Signal Red paint (photos 2006)

Interior is all original, except for sisal mats, and Signal Red 6407 paint has not faded. Exterior is all original, and there is some fading in the paint.

NOT QUITE ORIGINAL COLOR

Ed,
The color is Palm Green or at least a variation of it. Eric Mayer is the owner of the car and I believe he modified the color somewhat.
Here's mine in Fazination Grun, I had it mixed to match the green used for the titles on Kubiak's 'Fazination Porsche 356'. Any photographer will tell you that green is one of the most difficult colors to record accurately as it is much more prone to color shifts under varying conditions.
Regards,
Joel

No, its Pastel Green, a VW color available on early 50's VW's.
