What is the chassis number of your A car? Is it close to my car which was originally Orange (105327)?
Sometimes they painted these cars in batches. But being a "Special Color" maybe not??
I owned a special orange Porsche-1958 coupe, 1600S engine, black leather upholstery, chrome wheels, Becker Europa radio, clock, oatmeal carpets, no outside rear-view mirror. I purchased it in Sept. of 1959 from Pete Lovely's Sports Car Center in Seattle-traded in my 1956 Austin Healey 100M. I was tired of its problems and not enjoying it so much in rainy Seattle. The Porsche was so much better in every way.

I paid $3,900 for the Porsche and got $3,000 for the 100M, about what I had paid for it in 1956. I was stopped by the Porsche's previous owner one day who said he had paid $5,200 for it new. He said he wanted a car with more power-he was now driving a VW with a Carrera engine.

My orange coupe was a great car-I swear it had one of the more powerful regular engines that happened ocassionally. It would idle smoothly at 500 RPM and rev easily to 6,000. I even had it on the open road several times to 6,000 RPM and it would keep up with my friend's 1957 Carrera coupe [now owned by Steve Terrien].

I only saw 2 other orange Porsches-a convertible D in Seattle and another coupe in San Francisco. I regretably sold my orange Porsche in Feb. of 1964 and never saw it again.

Aquamarine Blue Metallic

Here are a few shots of my '56 Aquamarine blue METALLIC, emphasized because it is different from the later non-metallic color. Gorgeous color, this is original paint.

Dan, if you are responding to a post of mine from several moths ago, my VIN is close, 105321. ai have black interior. Carpets have been dyed, but I think are oatmeal. Still have not decided if should paint original orange or the right red for 59. Walt

interior/exterior colors

#74 Post by William Trowbridge »

you did a great job showing us authentic exterior colors for the 356.I would be very grateful if you would compose an article on the various interior and exterior color combinations possible with the 356. Porsche gave much thoutht to these color combinations and there ate some striking combinations. I think that lots of guys restoring 356's are not aware of the beautiful combinations available. Thanks for your contribution. William '64SC bali blue/gray

Don Rutherford wrote:Here's my Orange C coupe. #5711 Orange was one of 4 special order colors in '58/'59 (I assumed T-2 A's) There were 3 C cars painted that color per the Reutter handwritten record book. One is apparently in the collection of a well known comedian and I don't know the location of the other but have all 3 serial #'s if interested.

my '58 coupe (102943) was originally painted orange with black interior per the kardex. it was repainted silver sometime in the 80s with red interior installed.

i plan to take it back to the original color combo in the near future.
