And the Woodland Hills location was on Ventura Blvd

Also Inglewood!:

And of course, No. Hollywood, Hollywood (at least 2 locations?) and Culver City distribution center.

Does anyone have photos of an authentic Hollywood - Competition Motors frame? I've been offered one for $$$, looks to be monochrome (no paint) with checkered sections at the lower corners. It says 'Hollywood' at the top, not 'North Hollywood'.

Jon, what does it say on the back?
By and large, all those old metal plates had a manufacturer on the back side.
There is a reproduction competition Motors frame. I have seen some pretty "crafty" weathering to make them look old.

Wester

#199 Post by R. Kreiskott »

Here's a Wester frame, as listed in the Aug '68 Porsche Dealer List . . .

426/021/1
Wester Motors, Inc
1187 Del Monte Ave
Monterey, CA 93940

. . . but probably in the area much earlier

I believe that this frame --- minus any brand reference . . . dates back to the late '50s - early '60s

Other Porsche Dealer Frames

In addition to The Samba's, there's a long thread running over on The Early 911S Registry site on old Porsche dealer frames . . .

http://www.early911sregistry.org/forums ... ate-Frames.

I'm interested in 911 dealers --- late '60s-to-early-'70s . . . but I've come across a few frames that probably over-lap w/ 356. I'll post 'em when I can

Re: Ed Pape'

#201 Post by R. Kreiskott »

From the Apr '69 Porsche Dealer List . . .

423/022/1
Pape'-Cross Volkswagen, Inc
20 Coburg Road, PO Box 1971
Eugene, OR 97401

. . . from the Apr '69 PDL, becoming . . .

Ed Pape' Volkswagen
(same address)

I don't have any PDLs w/ Pape' listed after MY70 . . . so any Pape'-only frames w/ 'Porsche' badging would be one-year-onlys (?)

Trans Ocean Motors was at one time a VW & Porsche Dealership located in Pasadena, CA. Some time after 1964 they were asked to choose between VW and Porsche. They chose to go with VW and are still in business today. They are now located at 130 N Sierra Madre Blvd, Pasadena, CA 91107.

I didn't notice a manufacturer name, but wasn't looking that closely and will check later this week when I see the seller again. It seemed to be in very good shape for something so old an ephemeral, so I have my doubts.

Given the year of my car (1956), probably the North Hollywood version would be more appropriate. But I suppose those are also next to impossible to find.

Jon
A while back I did a pictorial article on my original VP frame. On the backside it had the

NO9. ROBERT W. BROWN CO. NO.9
DOWNEY, CALIF

The front side had white background with red lettering. One Porsche crest before VASEK POLAK.
Manhattan Beach.

Another interesting fact. Some later plates said Hermosa Beach. According to Carl Thompson; Vasek's last race manager, there was a dealership store in Redondo Beach, but no Porsche frames were actually issued with that on it. Those that do say that, I am told by him, are reproductions.

There is a Competition Motors North Hollywood reproduction frame. I have one of those for my Roadster. According to my coupe paperwork, my Coupe came from Competition Motors - Culver City. They were the distributor. It actually came from the Neil Compton store in Inglewood CA. This car was sold in late August 1963.

Roy, thank you. No paint on this purported original Competition Motors frame. I'll look for a Robert Brown or other maker's mark on the back.

Many of my older frames also have the same makers mark mentioned above. I recall the name Downey on them on the back side. But not all of my original frames have this mark either.

I'm in the process of putting my dad's 63 B back on the road after being in storage since 1973. He purchased it new in Feb of 1963 from "San Diego Motor Imports, Inc." They were located on Kettner Blvd. in downtown. I'm looking for one of their frames. Any leads are appreciated. Thanks!

Picked up on this post. OK, was at the SD swap meet today and found the attached (its clean now). Two questions, (1) did these guys sell 356? (the plate appears correct timing, and (2) restore it or keep it as is IF it is correct?
