Jim,
My parents live in Greenville. Nice porsche roads up there. Have you ever seen a Porsche frame for Leroy Cannon? or a Porsche/VW frame? Just curious.

According to my sources, the dealership was founded in 1959.

Mark:
I cannot recall seeing a Leroy Cannon Porsche frame, but there could very well have been one. The Porche dealer was at the same location with VW between 185 and Grove Road until the Porsche dealership, sometime in the 70's, moved to a freestanding building further out Grove Road. When Leroy Cannon Motors closed, Porsche moved to Laurens Road as part of Snyder's, then became John Finger Porsche and is now Porsche of Greenville.... still on the Laurens Road "Motor Mile".

There was also a Porsche dealership in Spartanburg, SC that was part of Gombert VW.

If you are ever in Greenville during October, plan on attending a car show we put on at the BMW plant called EURO Auto Festival( www.euroautofestival.com ). We always have a nice Porsche representation and some neat driving events at the BMW Performance Center.... using BMW's provided by the factory. The BMW Zentrum museum and factory tour are well worth the visit.

Dealer badge

#71 Post by Tom Markussen »

Hi all,

My ´57 Speedster T2 was equiped with this badge from Colorado Springs Motors Ltd when it was new. It is very nicely styled and similar to the normal Porsche badges. I dont know extacly where it was placed on the car but it was in connection with the back number plate. Does anyone know that? It was on the car when the previous owner bought the car in Colorado in 1980.

The only link I can find to this dealer is from samba.com, included.

Cheers Tom

DEALERSHIP BODY BADGES??

#73 Post by David Van Dyke »

Tom,

I grew up in Denver, just a little north of Colorado Springs.
I don't remember this dealership, maybe some other member
from Colorado will know. It may have been a VW dealership
that was selling the Speedster.

The question is:
Were these dealership badges mounted into the body of a 356?
This would not be original to the 356 model, but rather a dealership add-on.

If you are looking for "originality", please ask some more questions to the members
before attaching the badge to the body.

Regards,
David

This is the orignal plate and frame on my '63 B Coupe. This car was purchased by my father in 1963, sold in 1976 and I bought it back and restored it in 2004...more pictures to follow "someday." Sweet Lou
