This isn't a frame but it is from Jack McAfee Motors. Inc. (a 1960 calendar.)

Van Wyk - Tucson

#55 Post by Mark Pribanic »

Just exchanged a few emails with Jeff Gamble and it was brought to light there was a Van Wyks Porsche in Tucson as well. Here's what he sent me:

"hello Mark,,, enjoyed seeing your collection of old timer licence plate frames.
Van Wyk also was a VW-Porsche here in Tucson in the 60s. Tall John ran the Tucson store while the family owned store in California. They lost the Porsche dealership in 1969 to Al Jobst of German Car Motors who had the franchise for only one year before going to the new dealer to town Sun West Porsche Audi. Then it morphed into several names after that. Continetal, Bob Lewis. Interesting how this contemporary history all the sudden becomes cool classic history.

Best regards,
Jeff Gamble
Tucson"

I then went to thesamba.com and found the dealer name: Scott VanWyks Motors, est 1964.

Very cool...anyone from Arizona got a pic of a Tucson VanWyk frame?

Thanks Jeff

Here's a great tag frame I saw at the 2008 Rolex 24hr race. I think many on the forum will agree...

This plate frame was just nonchalantly sitting on the back of my 52 Split Beetle when I bought it. I am pretty sure Precision was a Porsche Dealership. Anyone have any other info on them.

52hoffmansplit,
To answer your question, according to my sources, Precision Motors sold Porsches starting in 1957. That tag looks like a 70's/80's style to me, but since it was in your '52 maybe it is original to the year. Is it a large license plate frame?

There is a one owner '59 coupe in the Florida Owners Group. It was bought new in Beverly Hills at Precision. I'm not aware of him having the plate frame. But I will ask him to verify.
Here's a picture of Tom Pletcher's one owner 1959 coupe:
