2007 Florida Owners Group - Bull Session-8.18.07

#1 Post by Mark Pribanic »

The 2007 Florida Owners Group, Annual Bull Session was held at Kirk Stowers Restoration shop in Melbourne Florida. Melbourne is centrally located on the east coast of Florida and almost due west of landlocked Orlando. At the time I was in the middle of replacing the floors in my 356. I had never been to Stowers 356 restoration shop but wanted to make the most of seeing many 356's in mid restoration. I left solo early that morning & made the 2 hour drive down from Jacksonville in the Audi TT.

As I pulled up I was greeted by a cozy line up of 356's:

Never visiting this shop before I wasn't sure which door to open. So after I parked I noticed an open bay door and proceeded to walk down towards it. Here's what I saw inside:

Although there were 356's in the garage I didn't think this was the right place. I was right. So, I wondered back out and saw a few people open a door behind the row of 356's I passed earlier. What I didn't realize was Kirk's shop has A/C and the doors were all closed. Now that is a luxury in the sweltering heat of mid August in Florida.

As I walked toward the correct door I decided to take a closer look of the 356 line up

As I entered the shop I was greeted by ice cold air, a room full of people and several 356's under restoration.

After checking everything out I got in line for the BBQ lunch, grabbed a chair to sit in and met some new folks. We talked about the finer points of replacing floors in a 356, past FOG events and future FOG events. I left shortly after and headed for home up I-95. I received some good tips for tackling the rest of the floor replacement in my coupe.

Now to get on it & finish...
