1960 356B T5 Super 90 Sunroof Coupe Project

#1 Post by Dennis Vogel »

I'll add our project to the forum. The summary is a literal barn find. Well, barn after a tornado. My father has had it in waiting for over a decade. Matching engine and transmission. The chassis is at his place, I'm currently rebuilding the engine, and sourcing as many original serviceable / restorable parts as possible.

I'll be doing most of my updating via my Wordpress blog. I find it a little easier for posting, and it will probably include topics too mundane for the forum.

I suspect the folks here have forgotten more than I will ever know. I think my main contribution can be details regarding oddities of the T5 generation. I'm pretty obsessive and don't mind researching topics. I think I've pulled together some summaries regarding originality on things like seats, and headlights, that might help save others time down the road.

As you can see, there's much to do. I suspect this would have been a parts car 20 years ago. I think the Super 90 and sunroof are all that saved it.

Always open to suggestions and guidance. This forum, and the members that volunteer their time and knowledge, has been invaluable.

Thanks.

I like it! Looks like a rag-top sunroof installed.

Hi Greg. Thanks for your reply. The cat can hang out there now. After it's replace will be a different story. :)

I may take you up on the photos offer at some point. It seems the T5 are a bit of a weird middle child. I've had fun deciphering things like correct seats, that are subtly different than the T2 or C.

I've gotten the CoA (now Production Specifications), Kardex scan, and even the Reutter Certificate. I was hoping for some mention of the sunroof, but did not get that satisfaction.

We're 111667.

Could I trouble you to add some pics of your car to the Golde / Webasto cloth sunroof thread?

If you want to post some close up pics of the sunroof assembly, handle, frame and underside with the headliner removed; I'll try to help you determine the manufacture.

No problem. I added a post with some sunroof specific photos to that thread. I've been following it. Very interesting.
