It will depend on what is to be replaced. In my '59 the problem was clearly a leaking battery. I only replaced the center section. Butt welding the new pan to the floor toward the sides, and plug welding to the flange elsewhere. In my '56 the whole floor and one of the sides needed replacing, including the bumper hat section. I would look at the damage and only replace the minimum. If you can get the car metal clean enough you can spot weld. Otherwise plug weld and grind smooth.
