Where can I get a 356 SC oil breather hose?

#1 Post by Dave Erickson »

I am looking for an oil breather hose for a 64 SC with Solex 40PII's. Stoddards does not list any oil breather hose for 356 C/SC (61610707501), but they have SIC-107-700-00 Long Ribbed Breather Hose for early 912 engines Replaces 90210770000 (http://www.stoddard.com/90210770000-sic.html). Is it a good match to the original C/SC hose?

Jim @EASY had some made up. I don't know if he still has any though. The early cloth covered ones are NLA. Jim made up the ribbed plastic ones. viewtopic.php?f=13&t=31555&hilit=SC+oil+breather+hose See also: viewtopic.php?f=13&t=25396

Are you looking for this kind of formed plastic hose in photo below? Two versions -- those are available.

If you are looking for a rubber hose with woven cotton outside braid -- nobody has the correct sized one of those.

Two versions, which one fits a 356 SC? As I mentioned, the one I linked to is for a 912 and it is the only one I could find on Stoddards web site. Someone posted in the other thread that the 912 part is too large.

What about AN-12 (¾" I.D.) hose with black braided nylon covers? I know that is available, but is it too tight to fit the 20mm fittings?

I really want to get the original look for the hose, so I have been experimenting.

I ordered the tube Brad showed the photo of, and the large end is too large to adapt to a 356C oil breather. I wonder if a heat gun and a 19mm mandrel would solve the problem (like heat shrink tubing ;<), but I don't plan on taking the risk of ruining it, I will return it to Stoddard's.

I ordered some AN-12 hose with a nylon braid and it was not hard to enlarge the ends to fit the oil breather fittings, but it doesn't look right, plus the nylon braid loosens and unravels easily, needs to be constrained with a hose clamp. It would work in a pinch.

I ordered some 911 22mm braided hose from Elephant Racing, and I like it. It does not fit, but the gap is small and I will make some delrin or nylon bushings to adapt it, so that is what I plan on using. Here is a photo:

Thanks. I'm on the same quest. I'll reply if I find another solution in the future.

Dick, thanks for the note. I did not know the originals were pure black. It also might be possible just to remove the decorative stripe, i.e. it is on top of a cotton layer, so pulling it out might work.

Doug, thanks for the link. It seems to confirm that my search for a braided hose for my early C is the right thing to do.

Shameless Plug.

Yes, I have the hoses back in stock. $44.95 including 2 Norma clamps. These fit and are even better quality than the originals. Shipping via USPS is included and Calif residents will have to pay Sales Tax, unfortunately. The same hose is used for both Cs and SCs.

Regards

Jim
