I raced bikes at Gratten many times and it is real gnarly. There are a few severely sharp and narrow turns and not many road race tracks have a motocross jump like it has! I always had fun there but I had 2 get-offs there too that were pretty spectacular. AHRMA, the race organization, would run the track clockwise on Satutday and counter-clockwise on Sunday. Man was that confusing, or was it fun, or was it just plain dangerous?!

I should have guessed that you had been there CJ. It is fun in a 356. Yes everyone passes you on the straight but who cares! The only time I could drive my 356 close to the edge. Never drove it counter clockwise though. I heard a great story about one of the Amway guys who rented the track when he bought his Ferrari F40. He and a friend were having great fun tearing around the track. On a break the track owner walked over and asked why they were driving the track backwards(counter clockwise).

Well I got a front bumper today so now have the option of returning to stock. Still in the plastic from shipping. Unsure if new old stock or the now available reproduction that you can buy from Stoddard. Gonna have to think about this a bit. Came from the stash of a deceased 356er.

Maybe he was an old AHRMA racer. :P

I just screwed the pooch. After doing a few things to the car today I decided to take a short drive before starting the next project area. But I had a brain fart and forgot that I had not completely closed the hood. At about 50MPH there it was staring me in the face obstructing my view. Time to start saving some money for repairs.

Very sorry to hear that. We all make mistakes and it could have been worse. Glad you were not hurt.

I'm pretty bruised from beating my head against the wall. Very bummed. I know it is only metal but no-one near knows 356s well except one guy who really only works on his own cars now.

Bill Kemper at Panelwerks in Mentor OH is a good guy I have used a few times.

I emailed the local Guru Chuck Olenyk https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxSKO3Er-Yg&t=721s but as I had heard, he retired from doing customer cars a few years ago. He did remind me of a shop about 34 miles from here owned by a father /son who have 356s and do good work. Deming's Collision in Hasting Michigan. And they just happen to be a Hagerty Business of choice.

Doug,

I just read your post about your hood coming up whilst driving.

I am sorry to hear that Doug, we all put so much work into these cars and it can happen so easily.

What happened to the safety catch?

Vic that is the several thousand dollar question. Hood fit was good and opened and closed as it should. I am not sure why the hood didn't hold with safety catch.

I was still on the fence Doug about the hood straps.

I was going to complete the restoration and decide if they were going on or staying off.

Even though the safety catch should work this makes me sway more towards fitting them.

This morning, after time to toss and turn all night fretting, I have decided to just be thankful it was the newly acquired Outlaw that I screwed up on. My bodyman I used for my restored car spent 2 days fitting the hood on that car. And it fits and gaps are near perfect. Of course it helped that that hood had never been sprung. I am thinking that Trevor's website must need updating. It says he has new C hoods for $1650. I think I will call him in the AM on Monday. Only 5 hours away so I could drive down and pick it up and get home in 1 day. It is going to hurt to go out to the garage today as the hood on the Outlaw was pretty darned nice

I drove up to Demings. They feel hood which is rust free can be fixed without a problem. They should have a estimate in 2 or 3 days.
