1953 cabriolet front bow metal piece

#1 Post by paul vantol »

I am looking ahead quite a bit to my restoration process of a 1953 Cabriolet, as it is in the bare metal stage at this point, but I am missing the metal piece that attaches to the front wood bow. Anyone know of a source or does anyone have a template so that I can cut one out of new metal?

I was visiting Tim Herman at Carrera Motor Sports, in Hickory NC last summer. He had a preA cab in work, he might be able to help.

Hi Paul. I have a '54 cab and the front bow metal piece is sitting in the attic of my garage. Let me know how I can help.

Thanks, sorry that I did not get back to you right away and I just noticed your post. Could you possibly trace out the metal strip on heavy paper and mail it to me? Also, let me know what gauge or how thick the metal it--I presume it would be very similar to the metal strip on my 58 Cabriolet but not sure about what they used in '53.

I would be happy to reimburse you for whatever mailing costs, etc you incur.

....and do you have any pictures of the area below the rear wood bow along the sides of your car? This area was really rusted out on my car and I am wondering whether there was a metal "shelf" that inclosed, partially or completely, the bow from exposure inside the wheel wells.

Thanks!

No problem tracing the front bow metal piece and mailing to you. I'll email you off line so I can send pics you need now and possibly future easily from home e-mail.

awesome, Daryl. That's what I concluded based on the bow I got from Ted Capps and what I was seeing left in my car. Thanks so much for your help!!

Paul & Daryl,
Here are some photos of the front metal rail on my '53

and here are some pics of the rear wood tack strip ordeal. Lots of grinding and sanding needed on the upper part of the side pieces as you can see.

Sorry I didn't reply sooner, but some days I only look in the authenticity section and this one slipped by me.
