Re: Time to restore my 356 notchback
I have seen pictures with brake shoes reversed. The geometry is the same on each. I went back to my original disassembly pictures. Thanks for your suggestion. I reversed the anterior shoe on each side to reflect the picture. It seems to feel the same but I feel better now. Good eye!

Re: Time to restore my 356 notchback
HELP.
I have got a combination gauge wiring question. I have figured out the fuel sending connections, the oil pressure and voltage warning lamp connections and the oil temperature connection. I have no idea what the two nut held connectors are for...My wiring has a few missing numbers and there seems to be no corresponding wires in the lume. Grounds? Thanks
The gauge picture is upside down.

Re: Time to restore my 356 notchback
I figured it out. The new harness did not include the long strand of gauge illumination sockets or the grounds. Here is a picture of the wired gauge prior to installation. And the gauges installed. I still need to connect several wires involving the turn signal switch harness. Next will bleed the brakes, install the wheels and tires. A ROLLER, at last.

Re: Time to restore my 356 notchback
A while since last post. Car is back at Lance Lighthall for installation of front and back windshields. Also some repair of hangar rash. I don't want to talk about it! I did not show the installation of the headliner. Went very smooth, no real problems. turned out just fine.

Re: Time to restore my 356 notchback
Question about reproduction tail lights. I received them but the wiring receiver is more like an instrument bulb hook up. Just a brass attachment with a screw to hold the wire. See picture. I do not want to cut the wiring. Has anyone made short pigtails. Feed wire through the rubber nipple, One end with a female to connect the original wiring and then strip the insulation and fit it in the little hole, tighten it down and pull the rubber nipple over. Any one with other ideas?
I have no idea why they didn't copy the original setup.

Re: Time to restore my 356 notchback
David, years ago I used a short jumper wire with a female bullet connector soldered on one end and soldered the end that goes under the screw. Never wanted to cut a good wiring harness.
Have a great day

Re: Time to restore my 356 notchback
Thanks Rusty, that confirms my plan. I ordered the female bullet receiver from Stoddard. Cut a piece of black wire, soldered and crimped the connector then covered with shrink insulation and then pulled a piece of
rubber tubing over the female. Attached the soldered bare wire end to the tail-light, pull the rubber seal over the connection and then connect the bullet from the harness into the pigtail. No alteration to the original wiring.

If you right click on the image and pick open in new window it appears right way up. Must be a website problem.
If I had known I would live this long I would have pushed the envelope a little harder.

Re: Time to restore my 356 notchback
Car looks great. Question about your dome lights. I have 200244. Mine looks to have the original headliner and the dome lights are old worn T6 style rocker dome lights. Did you originally remove those style of dome lights from your car before restoration. I am just trying to make sure I replace mine with the correct style when the time comes.
Thanks
