I was asked to post this here, by one of the "pros" who once posted here, to help others... he still helps us on the 912 BBS, so out of respect, (& no, I've never met Jack personally, likely why he chose me to post here, and I showed support for Trevor...)

"Trevor Gates project
Well, the WCSTA contest is coming to a head here. I have a few thoughts about
it, if I may be indulged. Many worthwhile projects have surfaced in this
contest. Who to vote for? The term "deserving" and "worthy" have been used. The
current leader has multiple vintage Porsches in his stable. That candidates car
is a Speedster. It appears to be mostly complete, but has suffered greatly from
the "tin worm". Restoration of this car will most likely happen at some time in
the future, resulting in a car worth hundreds of thousands of dollars, out of
reach for all but serious collectors. It will never be chopped up for parts.
Very fortunate that he purchased it years ago, when these cars had little value.
On the other hand, Trevor's car, completely stripped of all but the basic body
parts, could have been lost forever but for his dream to own just one 356. His
project has advanced in just a few short years, eclipsing others that have had
little or no progress for quite a long time. Folks talk about bringing in the
younger generation to the 356 passion. If you want passion, Trevor is your guy.
Even with kids in grade school, he has run for a Registry position, volunteers
at nearly every 356 event in SoCal, and is currently serving in our local club
as a board member. In addition this, he tirelessly comes down to my shop each
Friday, hanging on the words of wisdom, lore, and history, from the likes of
Craig Richter, Kerry, Tony Smetona, Dirk Layer, and other notable persons of the
356 world.
Please give your vote to Trevor for WCSTA. It would be a shame to lose it to
someone that already has so much.

Pulling out all the stops, bringing in the heavy hitters, pulling for the underdog, and still, the voting seems dismal with respect to our numbers. Ok, so you're not into contest, ya have too much on your plate to search for a site on which to lay down your encouragement, or, as a member of this fine association of 356 lovers, ya really have better things to do with your time. Rats, just what does it take to bring out the Faithfulness of your time for things 356.

Pick from the field in this final round of support, the project and caretaker you feel would most benefit from this generous contribution of support by a business whose daily work makes it possible that we have access to the parts and advise necessary to keep these little beastees on the open road. Yea, even those whose climatically controlled garage or living space provides refuge so that these ever dissolving dreams might never return to the dust from which they came. Yes, even the more and less fortunate of the Faithful need to weigh in for the sake of another worthy dreamer's goal to make it all happen.

Egads, did I really concoct all that band width just to wrangle another vote out of ya for a deserving return to the road of this thing that brings a spark of memories and anticipation to the chemicals in our neural connectors? Yep. Sooooooo, give us a bit of your time, your enthusiasm; get out the laptop, I phone, blackberry, whatever you have and vote, NOW! RIGHT NOW DUDES AND MADAMS! JUST DO IT.

Maybe it's not too late with one day left to involve more members who don't tune in to the "Project" section but click on the Forum "Main Discussion" or "View Active Topics". I pretty much just click on "View Active Topics" unless I'm researching something. How about putting the WCSTA Final Vote thread at the top of the "Main Discussion" and "View Active Topics" sections for the final day?

really i don't know what to think. we do have a car club here so i suppose this is natural but to bring these collections back is hard to believe and that it is sort of mainstream in that there are so many of these folk that have the courage to undertake the task. i guess in the end we will have to see who has the gumption to complete their cars. i feel the contest has focused some extra energy on restorations but the contest will be over and they will have to march through the elements alone with (the help of admiring hecklers and) fortitude in their bellies. in the end i congratulate all who try but who to vote for? who's going to drive their car? those are the winners.

Ryan, most of the folks submitting entries have not yet shown "...the courage to undertake the task". That's why they have such amazing and entertaining photos to impress us. One entry has shown continuous progress for several years, slowed some by the time and money dedicated to a growing young family. Trevor will complete his project, with a little help from all his friends, no matter what; but winning WCSTA would certainly give a big boost to the time table...

Glenn, they tell us 7000 members, and so far 340 have voted. That is sort of dismal, isn't it... VOTE!!

It's normally about the same turnout for a Trustee election.

congratulations to Trevor and good luck with his car. thanks to Stoddard for a really fun contest. I especially want to thank anyone that favored my car with a vote. I reached out to other members for whom I have email address over the last 20 years or so. It was great fun corresponding again with many of them. I have a lot of undeliverable email notices to clean off my outlook. It was great to talk to so many and have an exchange with others on the contest and or times we have shared in the past.
