My Father was given two 356's. A 1952 356 Pre A (which I purchased from him) and a 1953 Pre A which he currently has.
This car was sitting outside for years (?) along side of a garage.
We brought them home and started our journey and education on 356 Pre A Porsche's.
My dad was a Volkswagen mechanic for fifteen years and knows them inside and out.
You can imagine the excitement we had when we brought home the 356's
I'm still studying the construction and reading a book on restoration. I want to do this correct!
The possibility to win the contest would be a wonderful start to "Doing it Right"!

WCSTA-22- 1953 Pre A
I recently acquired two Porsche 356's from a friend.
A 1952 Pre A which I sold to my son and a 1953 Pre A which I still have.
This Porsche was sitting on the side of a garage for years covered up with a blue plastic tarp.
It has the original motor.

The '53 looks like it has the same paint/interior combo as my '53. Fish silver grey over grey cord with dark blue dash. Dark blue carpet I suspect too, back when there used to be a floor in it.
The export bumper '52 is amazing-looking too.
These are pretty far gone, but at least the '53 has only been molested by time. Quite the time capsule!

Re: WCSTA-21- 1952 Pre A
Jim,
How long have you owned it ? I have owned mine for 44 of the 50 years since it is a 1965 C Cabriolet. It has been in my carport for 31 years. I thought it needed a lot(which it does) but nothing like the projects that our coming out of the wood work as they say. Still can't imagine these cars making it back. Think the $7500 is just a drop in the bucket for these kind of projects. I'm guessing over $100,000 for you to restore it on your own, because that is what a shop quoted me and mine is in reasonable shape. Wonder if there is any stipulation that you have to actually restore them within a time limit? Otherwise, take the money and run. Good Luck. Marc

Re: WCSTA-21- 1952 Pre A
It would be cool to see both these cars back in action…loves me some Pre-A's. I see '68 Michigan plates on the '53. Speaking from experience, nothing does 'em in faster than those salted winter roads. Great project cars for father and son to work on together. Original motor in the '53 is The Big Bonus. James have you seen the mirror on the '52 before or is it possibly from American Iron of some sort? Contest within the contest to guess what vintage car that came from. I thought my '53 was a real rusticle but I think I got out-rusted by either car. Jim if your '52 wins we're gonna insist you keep the deco strips below the headlights and those funky tail-lights.

Daryl, I've never seen that fender mirror before! Obviously a later add-on.
Jim, those front bumpers, bumper guards and bumper deco strips on the '52 are unobtainium. Save and repair them! You can use the front bumper guards as patterns for fabricating rear ones. Same with the chromed steel bumper guards on the '53. Both of those cars have those parts unique to those model or calender years.
Btw, it looks like the '53 has one of its original rear reflectors. Can you tell us if the red glass lens has a number on it, such as K1262? Or is it blank glass?
Based on the shift knob and garnish rails below the rear quarter window, it looks like it is from the 2nd half of 1953, so chassis > 50900?
