Difference in hinge pockets

Planning on cutting out original hinge pocket (1960) and replacing with donor piece (1961). Noticed on the donor piece there are two additional holes drilled – that look original and used – on the lower bottom of the hinge pocket. My original piece does not have these holes. Does it matter there are holes and what would they have been used for – and why are they present?
