356 Outlaw from Germany

#1 Post by Marc Walz »

Just finished my 1960 Outlaw and had the first roll-out today. The car still has most of its original paint. Still needs some minor work like license plate lights, exhaust tips and bumper alignment.

I love it. Nice work! I'll bet that paint would buff out really nicely(if you wanted the shiny look that is).

Congrats.

Almost everything :-)

- full 912 engine rebuilt, Nickie big bore kit, Elgin cam, modified heads, Weber, 123 ignition, custom exhaust
- full tranny rebuilt, Stomski shift coupler, Sachs clutch
- full new electric wiring harness
- all new suspension bearings, bushings and rubbers
- modified front axle
- Koni shocks
- adjustable drop front spindels
- Lemmerz wheels 4.5“ front, 5.5“ rear with 175/65-15 and 205/60-15
- CSP vented front disc brakes
- adjustable spring plates from Elephant Racing
- Speedster seats
- lot of welding on the floor :-)

This is how I bought it:

The drop spindles are not adjustable! They just lower the car on the front about 2“ without changing the axle/suspension geometry.

Where did you get the front drop spindles? I have a 1960 T5 outlaw same color.

VW drop steering knuckles are pretty easy to come by, you need the type for older link pin suspension. Cip 1 or CB Performance are two good sources in America.

Are the new spindles made specifically for the 356 by Empi and Emory drop spindle?

I too am interested in hearing what drop spindles exactly did you use? Also do your tires rub at all during turning?

I’m curious if those 205/60r15 fit in the rear without modifications?

I thought 195 were widest that will fit without rubbing?
