my slammed 356 project is ready... 17" BRM wheels and lowered !
it takes a long time to try with many tires, using spacers ect.
But ,in one day I can replace back to original !

I love it!!
Before anyone chimes in with negative vibes, please note how in all automobile designer's renderings of upcoming new car models, the car is illustrated with wheels/tires that fill up the wheel wells more than they will in production and sits quite a bit lower than its production version too.
Well done Tony!

What, me, negative? The car looks good but I'm not sure sure how long you could endure the vertebrae crushing ride.Sebastian Gaeta wrote:Before anyone chimes in with negative vibes

I like the front wheel well filled up. Reminds me of the photo-shopped lowering done on this one with 15" wheels.

Re: my lowered 356A t2
very cool looking car tony!
i originally wanted 17'' brm's on mine when it gets to that point, with a choice of either silver or stone grey. kind of going of silver for me but it does look cool!

Make it yours Tony! It's always interesting to see cars that deviate from how they left the factory. I'm a fan of the original ride height for 356's, but that look is 50+ years old. I like your take on it.
Glad to see you're enjoying your car! 8)
I would assume it's the same sacrifice in handling as my '58 Ghia, which is on 17's as well. It clunks around leaving red streaks on curbs and makes a mess of rear tires. It also gets it's share of thumbs up when puttering around in the summer.

"puttering around in the summer"
I guess if that's what makes you happy, go for it.

My guess is it does a little more than putter.
BTW Tony,...how many degrees of camber are you running in the rear there?

Re: my lowered 356A t2
At the risk of being negative, how much suspension is now left in the jounce (upward) direction ? Not much (<1/2") I would expect. That is a lot of negative camber in the rear ! I would imagine speed bumps are avoided at all costs too.
In my opinion styling should be tempered by practicality and sound engineering principles. On the other hand it's his car.

Re: my lowered 356A t2
Steve, by "putter", I meant there was no way that car could be driven at speed with the suspension bottomed out like that.
Larry; there's no way that car has even a millimeter of jounce.
I have re-done several race 356s that were lowered to the point of: shocks bottomed out, sway bar bracket bending the bottom rear of the shock absorber, you name it. When the suspension runs out of movement, things get stupid in a hurry.
And in the rear, the axle tube hits the chassis.

Glad to see you did what was required to have suspension movement up front. I am not clear on what was done at the rear.

It's been awhile when having a KG; I don't recall if the bump stops are 'matched' when the suspension is 'activated?
Changing the A/B rear brakes to the disc version, the C lower stop(s) must be changed to suit the B's upper stop(s).
