Upholstery near completion. Another 90 hours to finish the top and leather front seats.

Beautiful car... now i wonder when they changed Reutter badges? This one on a late 52James Davies wrote:Wow John, really nice work! The car is stunning. Glad to see all the original trim refurbished and reused. And glad to see the new windshield fit well on this cabriolet. I know others have had issues fitting these windscreens.
And thanks for the snap of the Reutter badge.

Re: 1953 Porsche 356 Cab Resto
Jules, the enameled badge was used 1950 through ~Aug 1953. They changed to the aluminum badge briefly in early 1953 for a number of cars (including Bill's), but must not have been happy with them and switched back to enamel one. There was also a diagonal badge used briefly in 1952, but I've only seen it in period photos.
The enamel badge and aluminum badge have different hole spacings, so it's easy to tell which cars had which if the original fender is still there. =)
The one in your photo is an NLA reproduction.

The aluminum Reutter badge though some what faded is original to this car. Built date for this 356 1500 Super was Marsh 2 1953. After being in storage for 50 years, my idea was to restore this Porsche back to it's original condition. Exterior color was Mode Grau or Fashion Gray. Blue interior and blue convertible top and tonneau cover. Serial number 60036 made this an early 1953 model with an early 53 electrical system that changed mid year. The roller bearing crank in this 1500 Super engine failed back in 1964. At present it to is being restored minus it's roller bearing crank.

Bill, if I came across as criticizing your car I apologize, that was not my intention. Your cab is absolutely stunning. I just wondered why yours had a different badge as i had seen a few cars with the enamel badge from the same period. James answered that Q. Thank you for sharing your knowledge James.

Cool Bill. Yeah, another cabriolet finished March 11, 1953 had the same aluminum Reutter badge. And there are others. They must have been testing them out or something. Very cool that yours is original. I only know of one other on a '54 car. The original enamel ones are very rare too.
Btw, these badges on the pre-A cars were originally held on with screws (at least the enamel ones were) - slotted machine screws. You can see the badge holes are countersunk with a bevel.

I have a similar 1953. Were the badges screwed on back then or did they use rivits like all my later cars?

The pre-A Reutter badges were always screwed on. The original badges actually have beveled holes for a screw.paul vantol wrote:I have a similar 1953. Were the badges screwed on back then or did they use rivits like all my later cars?
