Still alive and still restoring my old hunk of junk. Getting close to ending the metalwork stage and entering bodywork. Much work is behind me and much ahead. Gaps are looking good and very excited things have made it this far.

It looks good Kevin. It's not easy to give time to a project like that when you have a family and a career. Best of luck with it.

Thank you, sir, I appreciate it. Long road here and long road to there, but can't wait till it is in paint.

Steady as she goes Kevin, want to race. Naaaaa, its more fun and better that we take our time and pay attention to all the details that remain. I've a 63 S project with hole in the roof that looks pretty much the same as yours but is currently in primer. Engine and tranny are rebuilt, but, as you say, such a long ways yet to go, and I'm not as gifted as to know all the ins and outs of rebuilding engines and trannys. No doubt its much easier to pull a project apart than to put it all back right again. Like your outlaw approach with the wheels and brakes, decided to keep the drums myself but have upgraded the wheels to 6x16's with 195/60/16's to match the original diameter and circumference of the gearing. Lots of modifications (read upgraqdes) in store for this project, hoping one day to have it become as trustworthy and driftable as our 911SC.

Not a race I'd be likely to win, Glen, but I guess a little friendly competition never hurt. :P Best of luck on your project and hopefully we both have them on the road sooner rather than later.

Making great progress on my project. I have been dedicating Saturday's to my project with my Dad. A project where I can learn my my Dad's 50+ years of collision and bodywork experience. Every week we work, I am more and more in awe of his talent. I am soaking up all I can, but I know that I could only aspire to move metal they way he is capable of. I promise pics of the project before we go into primer. No secrets hidden by body filler and primer, this kind of art created from a banged up wreck are hard, but apparently achievable. Have a great weekend enjoying your 356, whether that is sitting on a milk crate and making vrooom vroom noises or driving your concours ride. More pics soon and hopefully driving my wreck by this time next year...

I bet it is nice to hang out with your Dad, what a great excuse to do so!

Indeed! My Dad is my very best friend, love him to death. I am definitely enjoying the time we are spending together on this project.

Your Dad said the funniest thing to my mom last weekend, it was very nice and also very funny.

I would be curious to hear how many hours you have invested when the car is finished. If anybody else has done their own body restoration, how many hours of their labor was required?

I'm not sure you really want to know. Wayyy more than you budgeted, or your worst case scenario, and it's a good thing it's something you are doing yourself. The good news is the more you do it, the better you get. I'd love to know Edd China's real time spent ....

In my experience following two full scale restorations:
1 If you don't pay them, they won't work.
2 The important Block corollary:
AS LONG AS YOU KEEP PAYING THEM, THEY WILL KEEP WORKING.

Thanks, Bill! If I was getting paid for this, I'd have those credit cards at $0!

I was lazy with pictures, so do not have some pictures before metal-on-metal on door jambs, passenger side door skin, and previous owner's nose job, but here are the last pics I took before undertaking bodywork. Should have it in primer to sit for the winter in the next three weeks.
