Re: Da Spoodster!

Today was better than yesterday. I cleaned up the door jams and they turned out very nice. Nothing like doing something twice to get it right!
I welded in the Speedster hump, it went pretty well.

Not the conversion is essentially complete, there are no more vestiages of the coupe the car once was and it is now for all practical purposes a Speedster.
There is still plenty of work to do but the basic shell is now there.
There will be no more dramatic moments of super wow, from here on out it will be lots of little finishing and final fitting.

Both exciting to be done and a little sad.

The plan is to make it to the ECH with the car, Geoff Fleming is doing the mechanicals for me and said he can get it back to me in time to finish the body and paint.
Started out strong today finishing the rear hump sheetmetal but ran out of gas, literally, my welder gas ran out. Oh well, it was a productive week.

Holy s**t, Adam, that is a lot of work for one week. Good luck on the finished product. Looking forward to future pics of your progress, including the one where you roll into the ECH.

Steadily filling in the gaps, not very exciting but part of the process. Now that the doors are hung I am probably going to do rockers next, the finish out the rear fenders. Shooting for a March deadline to start on the mechanical, than final paint and body in July, in time for the ECH in September.

I had a guy stop by the shop a few weeks ago, he didn't seem to quite understand why I was working on Da Spoodster. His attitude was there are enough Speedsters out there, I could probably find one, rather than re-invent the wheel.
I tried explaining it to him to no avail, so I just quoted the man himself.

Adam,
Ordinarily I'm not big on coupsters, but the spoodster is a special case and has a lot of fans! Keep those photos coming please.

"it is not for all practical purposes a Speedster." Adam, I guess you are just a really honest guy.

I find a certain part of what I do on this car I have to do over once all the pieces come together. You have to start somewhere but the first step is jumping with no net, the 2nd and 3rd step you have reference points to work off and it is easier to get it right the first time. With that being said I had to re-do the driver's door top, it was about a mm off, which once I got the door bolted in and the new rear lockpost finished, it became pretty obvious.
The top came off and went back on and I am happy with the result. I have to remind myself that just because something is done Wright, doesn't mean it's right, and I might have to re-do it.
