Carpet & Interior Color Combination

#1 Post by James Tran »

For a 58 A Coupe, what is the correct carpet color if I have a silver metalic with red furnishings? Does anyone have pictures of the various color combination that you can post?

Many Thanks

Hi James, There are lots of great colors for the interior of your car. My opinion is DO NOT USE BLACK. Black is neutral and other colors will give your car much more character

Hi all,

James, I think that the correct color combination for your 356 carpet is red/tan, like this photoshoot of a 356 A for sale, here in Italy, with his original interior

Have a good job!

Hi,

my car original has a red interior. I found the cover (mounted in front of the back seat) with its original carpet and that was tan. So, indeed I think that red/tan would be a right combination.
But now I'm wondering what color the rubber front mat and tunnel mat should be. Tan or black?

Hi Etienne,

Let me found some pictures about rubber mats...
I know that beige rubber mats was introduced with T2 body, but I think that was for later cars (after mid-58 to Aug 59). So I suppose that early T2 had a black rubber mats.

Here we have a silver T2 cabrio with red/tan interior and black rubber mats

I remember also this b/w picture from Porsche archive with a T2 Speedster and his black mats

Well... In my HD I only found this little picture of a T2 coupe' with brown interior and beige mats (covered by coco mats)

And here a T2 to restore with original interior (and beige rubber mats)

Hi Luca,

thanks for your reply. My car was delivered in sep 1958 so tan rubber mats would be possible. Its original exterior was meissen blue. I think that looks good with tan rubber mats. (Unfortunately they're much more expensive than the black ones...)

That's a photo of my car which was originally ruby red with a tan interior. Previous owners changed things. Those black mats were from at least two sources and, hence, not necessarily original.

My understanding is that the floor mats with "oatmeal" carpet were supposed to be tan and my car now has tan International Mercantile floor mats underneath coco fiber mats from NLA.

Thanks Jim,

I think I will search for tan floor mats as well, in combination with oatmeal carpet. I will get over the extra costs as I'll see the result!
But I still have a lot of time. The restoration actually must still begin!
