1953 Cabrio 1300, adria blue, red leather, darkblue Softtop
356/9 VIN 60095, built april 1953
I found the car via internet in january 2011. Car stands at Lennys Westcoastclassics VW. AbleCargo from LA managed the transportation and the shipping to Rotterdam Netherland via Vessel Cap Palmerston.
The lady arrived 23.03.2011 and i took her the 350 miles via trailer to Braunschweig / Germany.
I startet the restoration in April 2011.
I called Porsche Germany and they told me the details from the production card April 1953.

After stripped and first sandblast, we replaced the complete floor boards and about 0,5 squaremeters metall arround the wirehouses.
That was done in may 2011.

Welding June/July 2011, floor, batteryfloor, longi., jacks.
I decided to sandblast again and i made the epoxy 2 component primer.
I thought that it would harder to restore this Lady. It is my first 356 resto projekt.
It tooks arround 120 hours work with a friend, and about $1000 for parts to finish the body.

Thanks Omar,
an information about your red leather with one or two pics would be nice.
Do you restored it with similar original material?

Re: 1953 Cabrio 1300, adria blue, red leather, darkblue Soft
Hi Frank!
Apparently there are two types of Adria Blue. My car #5369/1950 is also Adria Blue but its listed as "metallic". Here is a photo of my '50 coupe as it was getting loaded onto the trailer heading to Steve Hogue's Restoration shop BEFORE it was media blasted. As you can see, its the original paint as evidence of the red oxide primer under the paint. The other photo shows a car at a show in Europe also painted Adria Blue Metallic. Of course the color on my car is "faded" but you can see that it clearly is the same color as the shiney example. Its interesting to note that I have seen that exact color of Adria Blue as is painted on your dash! A gentleman in Germany has a 1950 coupe that is also painted Adria Blue BUT its not metallic but its identical to your dash color!.......Cheers Mr. Okrasa 8)

My 51 coupe is Adria blue and the spots of the orginal paint that are left also look like the pics that Joe posted of his 50. I have seen other early car that are blue that look more like the dash that was just painted and I belive they were Azure blue. Also nice to see that cab being restored I remember seeing it when it was for sale, nice project.

Here is Simon Bowery's 1950 Coupe in Adria Blue Metallic. I would say that this color is also the same as the two in my previous post wouldn't you say? Gorgeous cloth interior also! Cheers.....Mr. Okrasa 8)

Re: 1953 Cabrio 1300, adria blue, red leather, darkblue Soft
Nice Colors, so far 5 different adriablues
1. Dashboard: "Adriablue R509 non metallic Code direct from Glasurit/BASF Germany".
2. Joe´s Car: Fish silver gray
3. Ned´s Car: Adria Blue met.
4. Richard Brumme´s 1950 Cab: Adria Blue, no met.
5. My Car pictures i took last month, under the door gum: I think "Adria blue R509 metallic".
As my knowledge, adriablue from 1951-1952 was paintet like the dashboard attached above.
1953 Till 1955 like my door pics.
I think Joe´s pics are fish silver gray. It is too bright for Adria.
Some people say in 1950 was no Adria blue metallic.
So everybody has his own Adria Blue, but the Colors on our cars are all different.
Nice adria blue discussion
Thanks
Frank

Re: 1953 Cabrio 1300, adria blue, red leather, darkblue Soft
OK. This discussion is starting to get a little out of hand so let me make this statement since im not an expert: "To the best of my knowledge, my car is Adria Blue Metallic based on these facts and figures from cars that are ALREADY PAINTED Adria Blue Metallic". There is such a thing as Adria Blue in 1950. Here is a list of 1950 cars that are already painted:
1) #5068 / Coupe / Richard Lukes / CA
2) #5310 / Coupe / Per Moller / Denmark
3) #5408 / Coupe / Peter Werner / Sweden
Here is a paint sample below that was removed by Steve Houge from my car when he was removing some of the damaged metal from my car while he's working on it. This piece was discovered under the dash behind a double panel.
Incidentaly, Richard Brumme's 1950 Glaser Cab's is Azure Blue.....A Porsche color!
Im calling out the "EXPERTS" here...........Please chime in with DOCUMENTED PROOF
as to what color is Adria Blue Metallic vs. Adria Blue. HELP!!!
