Road trips in your 356 photo thread
Over the years many 356 owners have taken some great road trips in their 356's . It is one of my favorite things to do. I only wish I had the time and money to drive my 356 around the world. Oh well, back to reality...
Post up pics of great road trips you've taken in your 356. The more scenic the shot the better!
Here's a shot of our '58. Taken during my honeymoon in Charleston, South Carolina:

Mark,
I have been taking long road trips in my 356's for about 15 years. Every fall I head east in a 356 to visit relatives in Vermont and take side trips to Maine, Massachusetts, and upstate New York. These two photos are from 1996 and were taken in the Adirondaks.

My longest road trip was taken in 2000. I had just completed my MBA, and my 10th high school reunion was later that summer. What better excuse to take a road trip? At the time I was 27, single, and had only owned my coupe a year or so. I was still very green on turning wrenches. Especially on my 356. In 11 days I drove 4300+ miles.
Neptune Beach, Florida to Ithaca, NY
Ithaca, NY through Watkins Glen to Pittsburgh, PA
Pittsburgh, PA through Chicago to DesMoines, IA
Des Moines, IA through KC, Kansas to Houston, TX
Houston, TX through New Orleans to Neptune Beach, Florida
I had to replace a front wheel bearing on the trip and 1 fuel filter. I had the wheel bearing in my spares. However, it was from my '56 VW single cab. At the time I didn't realize it was the same as used for my'58 A 356. I drove 60+ miles out of my way to the NAPA distribution WHS in Syracuse to find they were interchangeable.
Great memories, I only wish I had the time to do this every year.

Just bought the latest 911 & Porsche World. It has a good article on a '58 Coupe driven in the 2007 Peking to Paris Rally. The 2 drivers Gerald & Johnathan(didn't see their last name) were the youngest two entered in the race. I believe they were from the U.K.
Anyone in the 356 world familiar with the 356 and its drivers? Perhaps they are online, maybe even members of the Registry or of this forum?
Defnitely worth going out to buy the issue. Now back to reading the article for the 2nd time around

Now that is a road trip!
Found the website for it: www.pekingparis.com
Here are the entrants full names:
Gerald Harrison(GB) / Andrew Douglas(GB) 1959 - Porsche 356A 1600
Interestingly enough it said their car was a 1959?

Long trip with 356
Mark Pribanic brought my attention to the 356 Traveller corner of the 356 Talk and I am pleased to see that many 356 are driven on long distances. This is what they are made for , just have a look to old issues of Christophorus Magazines to really see what they were doing long time ago with 356 , thru Europe , Africa , Americas...
So here are some pictures of the trip we made with my wife from Paris to the North Cap in Norway with : 9600 km with our 59 356 A ... We really enjoyed this trip , probably our best holiday ever. You can read more about it in the January 07 issue of the 356 Registry Magazine.

On my way from Troy in Michigan down to Miami with a friend on a 2 day trip to get the car at Miami on Sunday.... a great trip crossing the US from north to south almost non-stop
Driving day and night facing the heavy clouds from Florida... and finally back home with the car clean and ready for the next

Don't bother with the wipers...
Freddy,
That's some serious dead buggage on the Coupe's windshield.
My recollections of driving in Florida is that a few of those bugs are big enough to have numbers on their wings.
Great pics, all. Keep 'em coming. 8)

Matt,
Great pics! One day I'll make it out to Camberg.
Out of curiosity what were you guys working on that required the removal of your Abarth? Was there an exhaust leak? Something else?
Tom,
Another great pic! This would be another trip to do before I die, in the 356 of course. Looks like you are doing a great job in keeping the next generation interested in the 356.

Jean,
Thanks for sharing your pics. I agree, I love reading about road trips, especially early ones in Christo or the Registry. But even better taking road trips like yours. This is my favorite pic you posted:

Freddy,
I recognize bug splatter marks like this! Those weren't the infamous Florida lovebugs were they? I always keep Windex in the car during lovebug season

Steinbeck Country
In 2000, out the back side of Laguna Seca's "Reservation Road", this scene overlooks the Salinas valley. John Steinbeck would have driven a 356.
