Hi 356 brotherhood, it's almost September and guess what....my Speedster is still on the rotissery. It seems like everything takes just double the time what i expected. :? Guess this is normal. My friend has more time that's why his car is almost done (!)

PICT0059.JPG
There was a problem with the paint so he had to redo everything....no not a nice job with the sand paper :?
PICT0064.JPG
The Speedster finally found its way to the paintshop. Nice idea for a new "transaxle" :D
PICT0071.JPG
When i close my eyes i see my black speedster in the spray cabin... :? My friend was "over motivated" when the car was back from the paintshop. He worked almost day and night to get the Speedster ready. He is doing everything himself so he installed the transmission, wiring harness, gauges and started to "make" the interior by looking at pictures in some books (!).

Books to see how it should look like :D

A very (!) necesary part for a car which will be driven in the rainy austria...

It was time to spend some time and money on the 912 engine which he bought in quebec but 10 pics are the maximum here so see you later and enjoy the pictures.

356 regards from a sunny Austria

Seems that time is like snow in the sun... Every year a post ?
Spent again some months in the states and bought this Super 90 from an old guy. He bought the car in 1965 (!). The car came with many spare parts and with the original engine. I got all servicerecords (two big folders) from 1965 until 2011. I never drove a Super 90 before and i have to say that it pulls really strong. Could be a "keeper".

The even came with the original tool kit :-)
CIMG3009.JPG
Sold 14 motorcycles and some cars but the "garage" is still full...
CIMG4862_1000x750.jpg
I bought a second Speedster last year in oregon. The guy sold the car just because he felt too old to drive such a "unsafe" car.
So i have twins now 8)
Don't know if i keep this one....

Short story.

A friend of mine and the owner know each other since 25 years and he told him (and some other guys) he wants to sell the dammed thing as he is almost 70 years old now and will never restore the Denzel.
He called me and i bought it... unseen and not knowing what to do with it.

It was sitting in a bard since 27 years which is pretty rare here in austria.

It's a 1952 and has VIN Number 8. Everything is there. It seems to be an early Denzel with a steel body and alluminum doors and hood.
Nice to have and better than money on the bank.

All the best from the Eastcoast Holiday (!!)

Speedster dashboard measurements wanted.

I had time to do some welding on my speedster yesterday.
Can anyone measure the distance between the hole of the ignition switch and the "hand throttle control" ? Are these two hole in a horizontal line ? Someone cut a bigger hole in it and took really big washers to fix the throttle control. I want to drill the original 12mm hole now in the right position.

Before:

I would need measurements A+B, Center to center and height offstet.

Thanks in advance and regards from a sunny austria.

P.S.: Don't forget to lock your 356 Sparepart storage. A friend of mine has a container with his 356 parts and some ass..... broke in and stole all the valuable parts. (Which parts are not valuable in theese days) 2 Transmissions, doors, gauges, seats, hood, door handles and many other parts.
I will put 220Volt on my garagedoor lock now and bridge the fuse...

Keep the faith.

Erich,
Please ask your friend for the transmission numbers, if he has them. And a description of year, completeness, etc. We will have the 356 world look for them. Were these parts over there? Or here in the states?

Hello,

the parts were here in Austria but i am not sure if they "came back" from the states...
I haven't got numbers yet. Will post all informations imediately.

Hey,
did all speedster "drivers/restorers" sell their cars and i have no chance to get the measurement between the ignition switch to the hand throttle ? :-)

Thanks in advance,
eric

Servus Erich,

Maybe this helps.

I have a cigaret lighter between ignition switch and hand throttle.

Distance between the 3 is an equal 55 mm center to center. I suspect the ignition to throttle distance on your dash is 55 mm also.

Cheers,
Janos

#1 edit
PS: Just another thought, the bigger hole on your dash might be for a cigaret lighter and there was no hand throttle on the original dash.

Who knows this Artist ?

I thought i am ready with doing metal work... WRONG.
The left front fender looked to have "too thick" sheet metal.

What i found is pure art
Metal...rust...tin...rust...metal...bondo...paint...

Looks to be more than 2 hours for me.. :? I thought i can drive my Speedster this year..
What a naive fallacy.

Erich,
I would vote for anything BUT black. I think the 356s look best in bright colors.

Unless you want to look like Dylan in 90210 I'd vote for meissen blue 8)
Personally I think it's one of the coolest colors for an open 356.

Hello all,

there is a porsche event in Gmünd in two weeks. I tried to get my speedster ready for this event since more than a year... but i am far away to "touch the ground" with my bathtub.
I looked in my garage and there is not one 356 which is running... :(
So i pulled out the 54 coupe which i never toched before since i bought it and i am trying to get that beauty up and running. It has not been running since 1984. Yes i know, two weeks are maybe to short 8)
I did the front breaks today and all the parts were in unbeliefable good condition.
I found some cool stuff like the original "Reuter" Badge behind the gas tank....

Here is a shot which i took right now.

Have fun !

P.S.: I will paint my speedster in Meissen blue. Thanks for your kind words :-)

Looks like your 54 belonged to an Aborigine. Compare the hand art. I love it!

That a boy! Looking forward to seeing pictures of your speedster in paint.
