This is a light I got at a VW swapmeet. The 356A has an electrical socket under the ignition switch and I needed something to plug into that socket.

Not very exciting here compared to the others...Talbot Berlin mirror...that's what stamped on it anyway...very racy.

Nope. All Carreras have the oil filler inside the engine bay.

I asked in a separate thread about a plug socket for electrical accessories like the trouble light in a C. I know they had them in early 356s, but did they have a socket somewhere in the C?

Pardon my ignorance and thanks to Mark and Freddy! This is a terrific venue for a novice to get up to date, in addition to the magazine of course.

I always thought these were in all 356s.

I think the socket is part number 644.616.131.01 "Plug Socket" in the 356A parts catalog. The same part number appears in the 356B/356C downloadable (http://www.porsche.com) parts catalog with no legend restricting it to the 356B, so it sure seems your 356C would have come with one.

These sockets are still made...somewhere. They might be used on BMW motorcycles.

Do you have a hole in the lip under your dash below the ignition switch? Are there any wires behind your dash that might connect to the socket?

The only opening I have under the ignition is the rectangular hole for a sunroof switch. There are no round accessory plug holes under the dash.
