Concours - Santa Barbara, California, October 12, 2008

#1 Post by Guest »

Please mark your calendars. More details will be available as time progresses. The Porsche Club of America, Santa Barbara Region would like to invite you to its Concours D'Elegance to be held in the best local car show venue you will ever see on October 12, 2008 on the lawn of the West campus of Santa Barbara City College, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. 356 owners are encouraged to attend. I assure you, personally, this PCA region is VERY 356 friendly. Especially this year's concours chair. More details will follow. Please mark your calendar.

Santa Barbara Auto Group has generously agreed to sponsor this event. The proceeds of this event and the club's other activities this year will be donated to charity.

As a fellow PCASBR member with Bill Sampson, let me add image to his invitation by posting a photo from last year's event.
It was my first concours attempt with my '62B Coupe. I'll be better prepared this year. 8)
Please consider joining us for a great day by the sea. You will be welcomed and your cars will be adored even if they're simply parked for display.

I should add that the Santa Barbara Region of PCA, besides being 356 friendly, has designated the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as its charity for 2008. Proceeds from this event as well as other club functions over the year will be donated to this very worthwhile organization. So, mark your calendars, have some fun and help some kids who need it.

We will schedule a concours prep clinic for newcomers and those who wish to improve their skills - probably in September. Stay tuned.

The prep clinic will be held, FREE, at Santa Barbara Auto Group, the principal sponsor of the event, from 11:00 a.m. until concluded, which will definitely be before 3:00 p.m. on September 13, 2008. Long time concours judge Dick Douglass, a well known 356 owner and great guy, will be the presenter at the "how to prepare you and your car for a concours" clinic.

Santa Barbara Auto Group will also be holding a free vehicle inspection the day of the concours clinic starting at 8:00 a.m. That clinic will be primarily for newer cars, although as I post this message, there is a good chance that a knowledgeable 356 technician will also be there.

Since PCA - Santa Barbara Region holds its monthly breakast on the second Saturday of each month, coincidentally September 13, 2008, starting at 9:00 a.m., why not come on down to Stearns Wharf and join a very 356 friendly PCA group for breakfast (only $12) literally right over the ocean.

Registration for the Concours itself is now open. Check the PCA-SBR web site for it at: http://pcasb.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=232.

We will have some fabulous prizes and goodies at the concours as well as a very nice luncheon. I plan on having more fun than the law allows. Did I mention a first rate DJ that wowed everyone last year? That's right, music we can all enjoy.

Here's a screen-shot of the registration form for the Santa Barbara PCA's Concours d'Elegance on October 12th.
This is a friendly, casual show at a venue that is absolutely beautiful — overlooking the Santa Barbara shoreline.
However, can a show have too many 356s? Not likely.

Someone sent me an email, which I promptly "lost" in the digital netherworld asking if non PCA members can enter this concours. The zone 8 rules, which govern this event, can be located at: http://zone8.pca.org/rules/2008/Z8Concours2008.pdf. The Introduction to those rules states in pertinent part: "Any person is eligible to be an entrant at a PCA Zone 8 Concours event. Only PCA members, family members, or affiliate members and their entry shall be eligible for the year-end PCA Zone 8 Championship Awards."

On the entry form itself is listed the number for Carolyn Ewbank who is far more knowledgeable than I about concours judging and the like. Contact her if you have questions I have not answered.

My sincere apologies for misplacing the original message.

I have some more good news on this event. Thanks to the courtesy of Porsche Cars North America, Santa Barbara Auto Group and PCA member Walt Branscome this concours will be offering a fabulous prize. The lucky winner will receive, compliments of the aforesaid, the Porsche Driving Experience, a two day, $2995, high performance driving course at the Barber MotorSports Park near Birmingham Alabama. Other prizes will be awarded.

We will also be offering a concours/detail clinic at 11:00 a.m. on September 13, 2008 at Santa Barbara Auto Group, taught by renowned 356 Registry member and concours judge and all around good guy, Dick Douglass. The same day, starting at 8:00 a.m. SBAG will offer free vehicle mechanical inspections for your Porsche.

Stay tuned for further updates. This promises to be our best concours yet.

Through the efforts of Walt Branscome and thanks to the generosity of our primary sponsor, Santa Barbara Auto Group and to Porsche North America, we will be offering a fabulous prize at the event, a 2 day Porsche high performance driving course. This prize, for a spot in an always sold out class, has a value of $3000. For particulars please see:
http://pcasb.org/main/images/stories/psds_prize.pdf

PCA - Santa Barbara Region is particularly 356 friendly, so, bring your 356 to the concours AND, maybe, get a chance to drive the modern version of the world's finest car.

Getting close to registration deadline

#9 Post by Guest »

This concours, held at the best local venue ever, on a lawn overlooking the Pacific Ocean, in spectacular Southern California fall beach weather (it's our little secret that I am sharing - the best season of our year) is coming soon. The pre-registration deadline of September 30, 2008 is fast approaching. You may register later, but, it costs a few dollars more.

We are including a chance to win a two day High Performance Driving Course at the Porsche track - value $2995. That's right, you may drive someone else's car, that is, Porsche's, in a manner few of us drive our beloved tubs. I'm informed the 997s used have a little more horsepower. :D

We will also have day of event raffles for some neat stuff and possibly a silent auction presenting an opportunity to obtain higher value items for considerably less than retail, thanks to our sponsors.

Is this a 356 friendly venue and club? Well, I'm the concours chair. The national president of PCA writes a regular column for the 356 Registry. Well known 356 owner Dick Douglass, who a week ago presented a clinic on detailing for concours will attend. I personally PROMISE you that you will be welcomed by all, including the GT owner(s). So, come on out October 12, 2008 and have a great time. Did I mention that the DJ will NOT play Limp Bizkit?

As the morning fog recedes off the beach in Santa Barbara, here's a shot from last year's PCASB Concours d'Elegance at Santa Barbara City College showing just a few of the many Porsches on display.

Frank - the Concours is the only Porsche-related event happening in Santa Barbara the weekend of October 12, 2008 - as far as I know.

Here's a link to several :!: pictures from last year's show, just to "whet your whistle."

Frank:

On October 11, 2008, PCA Santa Barbara Region has its monthly breakfast at Moby Dick's on Stearns Wharf in Santa Barbara. I think around 60 or so generally attend, including some of us 356 guys.

LAST CHANCE! - THIS SUNDAY, 10/12/2008- Santa Barbara

The Concours is almost upon us. There will be quite a number of 356s in every division although most will be in Wash N Shine. In addition to the drawing for the high performance driving school at Porsche's track in Birmingham, driving specially prepared 997s, we will have additional drawings for some cool items such as the original edition of Excellence Was Expected and Randy Leffingwell's Porsche 911 book. Great venue too - overlooking the Pacific on a beautiful college campus in a beautiful town.
