Helen 2017

#1 Post by George Bryan »

Brought again by popular demand the 356 Southern Drive will be hosted on Highway 356 outside of Helen,GA from Thursday September 21 through Sunday September 24, 2017. A great venue...cheap. We will have our website up again after the first of the year. We will only be posting event updates to the Registry site on this thread, so stay tuned.

Your hosts: George, Leonard, Judith and Jim, Joe, Daryle, Paul, Janis & Alan, Deb & Bill, and a cast of hundreds...aka The 2017 Gang of Committee 8)

We hope some of you will step up and help sponsor the event as before. Operators will be standing by for your calls.

Be there or don't come. Thanks,
George

Hi all, thanks to the folks who have stepped up to help sponsor the event. Anyone else who'd like to pitch in it's not too late...operators are standing by.

We are working on the website now and its just about finished. After a few reviews of the beta site for errors or dead links and stuff like that, we will place the active link on this thread 1 February, 2017. Registration will only run from 1 February to 28 February. We are limited this time to 150 attendees total including organizers and crew. This is a relaxed jeans & T shirt driving event based out of Highway 356 in the beautiful GA mountains.

We always sell out in a couple weeks, so don't snooze.

Thanks very much. Be there or don't come.

George,

What address do we send items?

What are some states where those attending might be from?

I believe you do a fund raiser for some organization(s).
Any tax deductible?

Sorry I can't be there,
Bob

Hey George, how did you manage to find 2 pictures where nobody is smiling and laughing? That's all I saw people do when I was there. We're looking forward to it!

Hi Bob. This is a social and driving event. At the Sunday banquet at the end of the drive we take any unsold event badges, signs, gear, or parts we could snitch from Pete Bartelli's 4 cam without him noticing, and hold an impromptu auction. Every cent collected at the auction is donated to the 356 Registry Cancer Fund via Diane. No CPA's involved. We have cars from 19-23 states each time to include WA, CA & TX. Nobody has driven from HI or AK...yet :)

Cliff, the pics show the undivided attention at the Sunday driver meeting where we review all safety and route driving etiquette and procedures and the driving route plan...especially the route turn markers. The people smiling were probably not looking for the photo op and were probably still smiling when they missed the first major turn and ended up the wandering run group. You would have to ask Jeff though to confirm the smile. :D

Look forward to seeing y'all again. Be there or don't come.

Well, have you ever!
The photos appear to be from a Cardinals convention.

The website is now up for the 2017 Southern Drive....courtesy of the 356 Florida Owners Group.

Registration this year is ONLY from 1-28 February 2017.

We have reduced the size this year to 150 people total. That includes organizers and workers. We felt the event was getting way too big, way more complicated, and waaaayyy more work. We felt it was a departure from what we started out to do in 2011 with the event. So back to basics with a Southern mountain party. Rain or shine, especially for the Sunday DY356 Helen 100km Mountain Road Tour ending at Cenitas vineyard for a spectacular five star meal by Chef Lee.

Thanks to the sponsors who stepped up to help out. Still time to sign up as a cash money sponsor; operators are still standing by for your calls. Call out to Bob Watts who donated some items for the 356 cancer fund auction. Also Diane who will be there with John & the Goodie Store.

First come first served!

Here is the link. http://www.356fog.cityslide.com/So356dr.html

Be there or don’t come. Thanks,
George Bryan, Leonard Scrantz & the 2017 Gang of Committee

PS. A woman designed our logos this year so as not to have a repeat of my innocent Speedster dash design which became the infamous "Tach It Up" T-shirt.
