Zia 356 Rottheis Tour, August 4-7, 2016

#1 Post by David Gensler »

Zia 356 club is once again planning a Rottheis tour. For 2016, the venue will be Chama, NM over Aug 4-7. It may be hot everywhere else in August, but not up in the cool clear air of Chama and the San Juan Mountains. The tour will feature a driving loop around the San Juans, including Wolf Creek Pass. It will also feature a day-long journey on the Cumbres and Toltec narrow gauge railroad. The C&T is America’s longest and highest scenic railroad. It is also a historical treasure, being little changed from the original Denver and Rio Grande Western railroad built in the late 1800’s. The 64 mile rail line clings to the side of Toltec gorge, hundreds of feet above the Los Pinos river, then climbs up over Cumbres pass (10,022’), before descending down the valley into Chama. Chama is a small, quiet town. Lodging is modest and relatively inexpensive. Please join us for a fun mountain adventure on the New Mexico/ Colorado border.
