This year marks 30 years of the 356 Porsche California Alta Region, or 356CAR, the enthusiast club based in Northern California. Looking at the roster from September 1983 there were 81 members, of those 6 are still current members. The original concept was to be a local region of the Registry, hence the “Region” in the name, however there were far more regulations and constraints placed by the Registry, so it was formed as an independent club.
To review the history of the club would take several pages. The members have chaired 6 West Coast Holidays, Co-Founded the North South Gathering ongoing for 27 years, numerous tours, tech session, swap meets, and a favorite- the 4 monthly gatherings. Being that our area is diverse, the Sierra Nevada Mountains on the East, and the Pacific Coast on the West we have some of the best roads and venues of anywhere. Nearby Laguna Seca and Sears Point Raceways, provide some of the best vintage racing in the world.
In the planning stages is a special Gathering of the Faithful. Check out the website www.356CAR.org, and considering becoming a member, our dues are reasonable.
Anybody have a story from the 356CAR past?

Re: 30 Years of the 356 CAR
The Alta Region is actually 32 years old. The idea of creating the very first region of the 356 Registry was discussed at the 1981 West Coast Holiday in Lake Tahoe. Those present were Barry Allen, Ned McDaniel, Mike Gallagher, John Gilbert, Keith Milne and myself, Llew Kinst. This group was responsible for the 1980, 81, 82, and 84 Holidays with a different person taking point for each event. Steve is correct is stating that we did get push back from the Registry Home office and formed the group on our own in 82 with additional members joining in 83.
