Updated Schedule & Info re. Third Coast 356 Oktoberfest

#1 Post by Bill Waite »

Yesterday, I sent (via email) 2 pages of event schedule and information update. However, some registrants did not provide an email address or the one provided "bounced back" as undeliverable. In many cases, I was able to find the correct email and resend, but just in case, I have "cut and pasted" the update below. I did remove the cell phone numbers provided in the original documents, as I'm not sure the "Gang of Five" want their cell numbers published online. :)

Here you go (contact me if you have any questions):

---------------------------------------

Third Coast 356 Oktoberfest Updated Schedule & Additional Information

Note: group activities covered by your registration fees are in “Bold” font.

Thursday, October 4, 2012

10 a.m. – 12 p.m. (Noon).... Event Registration at the Gull Lake Inn Clubhouse (Host Motel)

Registrants will receive a registration “welcome” packet with expanded information, maps, etc. All participants will be required to sign the 356 Registry’s standard event waiver (they are providing event insurance). If you ordered t-shirts and/or grille badges, you will receive them at the time of registration. This will also be our first opportunity for introductions, hand shakes and tire-kicking!

12 p.m. (Noon).... Lunch on your own (list of suggested places will be provided)

1:30 p.m..... Group Departs from Gull Lake Inn for Air Zoo

2 p.m.... Tour the Kalamazoo Air Zoo (including their restoration facilities)

Preview link: http://www.airzoo.org/index.php?menu_id=7

4 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.... Event Registration at the Gull Lake Inn Clubhouse (continued)

5 p.m. – 6 p.m.... Biergarten (beer, wine and pub snacks) at Gull Lake Inn Clubhouse

Each day’s late afternoon Biergarten “social hour” will be held at the Gull Lake Inn clubhouse. Please understand that the modest event registration fees will not enable us to offer the finest of wines or the most premium of beers. Rather, they will be “middle of the road” sorts of beverages. So, if your taste buds are attuned to the very best (or if you prefer spirits / mixed drinks), then please BYO to the Biergartens (a well stocked party store is very nearby the Gull Lake Inn).

6 p.m.... Dinner on your own (options will be identified).

Your welcome packet will include a listing of local restaurants for “on your own” dining. However, some attendees have indicated that the first evening they intend to stay at the clubhouse and order in pizza (perhaps continuing with their own “adult beverages” after the Biergarten). In addition to that option, there is also a very nice outdoor grilling area (under a roof) at the host motel for those interested in grilling burgers or whatever.

Friday, October 5, 2012

Morning Breakfast on your own (host motel includes continental breakfast)

9:45 a.m..... Group Departs from Gull Lake Inn for Off Brother’s Garage Tour

10 a.m. – Noon... Tour Off Brother’s Garage (award winning private car collection)

The guided tour of this automobile collection is one you won’t soon forget. The collection and on-site restoration facility are located on the shores of beautiful Gull Lake. Numerous concours winners are on display, including several “Best of Show” winners at Pebble Beach and this year’s Amelia Island “Best of Show” winner. This is the private collection of two local gentlemen (Ron Elenbaas & Bill Johnston). Bring your cameras!

12 Noon.... Lunch on your own

1:30 p.m.... Group Departs from Gull Lake Inn for Gilmore Museum Tour

2 p.m.... Tour Gilmore Car Museum (including their restoration facilities)

FYI, our “Gang of Five” leader, Tom Kayser, was once the Director of this fantastic antique and classic car museum. We will be taking a guided tour of the museum, including its restoration facility. As of this writing, Tom is attempting to arrange for a well known local photographer (John Lacko) to take photos of each 356 and its occupants on the way into the museum. Again… bring your cameras! A preview of the Gilmore is at this link: http://www.gilmorecarmuseum.org/

5 p.m. – 6 p.m.... Biergarten (beer, wine and pub snacks) at Gull Lake Inn Clubhouse

6 p.m.... Dinner on your own (options will be identified).

Saturday, October 6 , 2012

Morning.... Breakfast on your own (host motel includes continental breakfast)

9 a.m. - 5 p.m..... On Your Own Activities (your choice – maps will be provided)

• Self-Guided Fall Color Tour to South Haven and Lake Michigan
• Self-Guided Wine Country / Brewery Tour
• Self-Guided Fall Color and Gun Lake Casino Tour
• Self Guided Antique Shop Tour to historic Marshall, Michigan

This is an “on your own” day, although there will be sign-up sheets in the clubhouse for those who would like to “caravan” on a particular tour. Maps and additional information will be provided for each event (part of the registration “welcome packet”). Just plan on making it back to the Gull Lake Inn Clubhouse for our final Biergarten and the catered Oktoberfest dinner!

5 p.m. – ?.... Biergarten (beer, wine and pub snacks) at Gull Lake Inn Clubhouse

6 p.m. - ?.... Catered Oktoberfest Dinner (at the host motel clubhouse)

The Oktoberfest dinner will be followed by a Door Prize Drawing thanks to a number of sponsors who donated 356 Porsche related items for the giveaway. The dinner itself was subsidized by donations from the Porsche 356 Registry and Hagerty Insurance company.

Sunday, October 7th, 2012

Morning.... Breakfast on your own (host motel includes continental breakfast)

8 a.m. – 10 am.... Swap Meet (coffee & donuts at host motel clubhouse)

Many registrants have indicated that they will be bringing parts, literature and/or memorabilia for our small morning swap meet. This will be held in the host motel clubhouse. Bill Block (and “Fast Freda”) will be there with their great collection of Porsche books and printed matter. Please bring along a few “bits and pieces” to sell or trade and join us for some coffee, donuts and “good bye” handshakes.

10 a.m.... Auf Wiedersehen – Have a safe trip home!

Regards,

West Michigan's Gang of Five

Bill,

I am gearing up for the Oktoberfest! Thursday and Friday's weather looks great, Saturday shows a 30% chance of rain, so I predict 70 degrees and sunny :D

I also predict perfect weather for the swap meet on Sunday......that's inside, right? 8)

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Cheers,

Cars, engines, trannys, dirty greasy parts will be outside the clubhouse. Smaller or weather sensitive materials will be inside the clubhouse or outside at the sellers discretion. We are novices and pretty loosely organised. Southwest Michigan is always a challenge for the Weather forecasters due to the influence of Lake Michigan. It probably will not snow though. Maybe in Fargo where I grew up but unlikely here.

Sebastian,
You are going to call me with a play by play of the swap, right? Also, bring your brass knuckles, swaps can get rough.

For last minute people: rooms still available at Yarrow Golf and Conference Center as of 8:30AM today Wednesday. Cold front moving in and I sure hope I didn't doom the Event with my No Snow comment. They are now predicting a low of 35 Saturday night. As of this morning there are no rooms at the Gull Lake Inn and one person on the waiting list. Yarrow's number is 1-269-731-2090

Better yet, I can Skype you on the iPad. If you want to look at some parts and have face time with some vendors I can just walk around with you "inside" the iPad.

Now that would freak out a few people...

Just what everyone wants to see at a swap meet, a floating head virtual Adam, yeah that would be a little strange. I think I will wait until they can do the body takeover thing and just do that.

Mark,

I will have my camera and will do just that.

I might even take a few on my phone and upload directly during the event if possible.

Cheers,
