Porsche Race Car Classic photos

#1 Post by Barry Brisco »

Steve Heinrichs, Rich Peters, and their crew really know how to put on an event! The cars were incredible, the setting spectacular. Dr Wolfgang Porsche and his wife were wandering around looking at the cars and having a great time. It amazed me how after all these years he can still listen with genuine interest to a Porsche owner tell him the story of how we went to Stuttgart years ago for a tourist delivery, a story he has probably heard thousands of times, and nod his head and say "thank you for being a Porsche customer".

Here are a few photos, starting with the crowd anxiously waiting for the gates to open, then entering the field to find the cars shrouded in silver covers, and then revealed. I will post more this week.

Car number 154 is 550-001, the first Spyder.

Ya screwed up, Barry!
The 4-cam is not in 550-01. Check your notes. :)

Vic, you're right of course. The first 550 with a 4-cam installed by the factory was 003, and car 154 in my photos is 001.

I got my photos mixed up. I think the photos in my post above (second in this topic) is car 81 which is 550-09. That car was just behind 001 on the field and it had it's rear lid open.

Thanks,
Barry Brisco

Thanks for posting the pics! Wish I had been able to meet Barry and Adam there. I did "meet" Vic at Rennsport Reunion while he was working under a car but he refused to shake my hand (thanks to the grease!).

I was the guy wearing the black silk shirt with embroidering on the back of the 1954 famous racing moment in the Mille Miglia, with Hans Hermann's 550 going under a railroad crossing. Very cool to meet Hans at the event!

What a truly unbelievable weekend!

Jim-
Sorry I didn't run into you. I try to make it a point to meet as many 356er's as I can at these events, so much so that I wear a big nametag, it looks corny and I get razzed about it all weekend, but I probably talked to over 100 people at both events, RRIV and PRCC who stopped me saying, "Are you Adam from Unobtanium?" So next time you see a guy with Fabio hair (I got razzed about that too) with a nametag that say's Adam, stop me and say hello, that is why we go to events, right?
This shot was taken in the Porta-Potty at PRCC, by far the nicest portable bathroom I have ever been in, I felt like a movie star.

I`ve been to a lot of Porsche events in my 40 year 356 ownership, and this was the mother of all Porsche events for me......a close second was Monterey `82. Saw a lot of old friends. I had`nt been out to a P event in 15 years, and probably walked by old friends whom I did`nt recognize. The only thing missin was a name tag. I did see Brad, Craig Smith, Dave Merz, John Jenkins, Tom Oerther, "The Colonel" Les Long, Tom Conway, Rolly Rezos, and more. Dick Weiss, we played tag all weekend, sorry we could`nt hook up. Another highlight for me was seeing the sister car to my old 57 GT Speedster #83623....mine being #83622. Was hoping to find Bob Baker, but he was MIA....that Blue 550 of his should have been there too! My kudos to Steve Heinrichs and all the crew who put on one hell of a Porsche event!.........Bill Brown ( 3 cams short these daze)

Oh yeah; authenticity.
Like 550-03 running with a top and a Carrera engine in the 1953 Mexican road race! :(
Funny, I can't seem to find any photos of that.

The whole weekend was an amazing experience. Although I met a lot of people for the first time, there were so many more I would have liked to meet - maybe I should have had a name tag too Adam - not such a stupid idea! To see 13 original 550s over a weekend was like car porn - doesn't matter how many photos you take to remember, nothing replaces being there.
