I am confused about the distance from the rocker panel RED ARROW.
Is 100mm correct or 140mm ?

That is my photo Ralf. Someone had posted the diagram showing the 100mm dimension and the equal signs for their car and badge. I used their diagram and wrote the actual dimensions from my 53 cabriolet on it. There were two different styles of Reutter badges used in 1953, and they had different hole spacings. 37mm hole spacing corresponds to the aluminum '53-55 badge and 32mm hole spacing corresponds to the '50-53 enameled badge.

Jeroen van der Velden took these measurements from his 53 cabriolet.

This may be too late but I measured the holes in Walt 50070.

Badge holes are 32 wide

Laying a alum ruler on rocker edge the holes are 146mm up.

measuring from rear fender edge forward to the rear hole is 75.

From wheel arch back to forward badge hole is 85.

With the dimensions of Neil i found one original hole in my fender .In addition there is a photo after the sandblasting that shows both holes. The dimensions are slightly different on Vin 50580.
I think Reutter had no template when they drilled the holes. Is that possible ?

I have never seen a Reutter badge on the LEFT side; Glaser, yes; both sides.

Well, Schaefer, my cab 60240 must have been very near yours on the production floor at the time it was built! Badge location timely for me as I am putting all the bits and pieces back on a newly painted body.

Yes, screwed on with machine screws. Slotted, countersunk oval head.

Having reviewed the various posts about positioning, I am thoroughly confused.

Which picture shows the correct dimensions for placement of the badge? Mine would be the aluminum version.

Hi guys,
from what VIN on did Reutter use the 53 aluminum badge?

We don't know VINs ranges well. But we do know the aluminum badge was used on a number of cars in Feb/March 1953 (cabriolets 60036 and 60048 had the aluminum badge). But we know most other cars we have on record in 1953 through July 1953 used the enameled badge. Reutter started using the aluminum one again at the beginning of August 1953 on coupes and cabs. Coupes 50960 and 51015 have the enamel badge (late July early Aug). Cabriolet 60238 has the aluminum one (mid-Aug).

That story is at least consistent with known original cars.

Any further data would be appreciated though.

Again, can someone clarify the correct positioning of the badge?
