Paul Hatfield’s Continental Engine Belt

#1 Post by George Kehler »

Just installed one of Paul’s Continental belts on the Continental’s 3 piece engine. Fits well and looks period. Nice touch for our “older” engines !!

George-
Thanks for posting the photo. Your car is amazing and happy to help out with the belt.
From my previous posts, you guys know the belt shown is for the 3 piece engines.
Two piece engines are a different belt. Maybe someone will post a photo of a belt that is on their 2 piece engine. Those have a different graphic and are a different size.
Thanks again George!

Nothing to add here other than we are very lucky to have Paul back in the fold after his 356 hiatus, or "bad decision" as I like to call it :-). Paul, I have not been able to communicate with you as much as I would like in the last year or so, just too many other things going on but again, the hobby is much better since you returned!

It’s great to have “Mr. Authenticity” back on the forum. If you have not purchased his reproduction fan belt yet you should order one today. Authentic copy of the original. It is a nice touch to add to our cars.

Just a quick update for the Pre-A crowd. I have struggled for months on the Pre-A 2 piece engine belts. The new belts I sourced are brand new, smooth (not cogged) belts in the correct 13 x 850 size, but the surface of the belt was rougher than any of the other belts I have done. This caused me to reject belt after belt. A few made it through and were shipped, but they were the exception. Labor and supply costs went nuts as we continued to try and solve the problem. Almost threw in the towel...

The good news is we found a top secret method of doing this and are now producing. Sample photo below. This week and next we will make both Continental and Continental Porsche versions for 2 piece engine cases.

Whew! Please buy some of these things so I can dig out of this hole!

Paul
