I need both the short and long tie rod assemblies for a 55 pre A Speedster.

Will the A assemblies fit or are they different?

Pre-A uses a non adjustable short rod and the long rod uses jam nuts to hold them after adjustment.

A onwards with ZF steering had both rods adjustable and used clamps and bolts with nuts to hold adjustment. You need these on any car with ZF to center the box correctly.

Pat and Cliff

They are different - - - -

The stud cone is 12mm diameter on the pre-A tie rod ends, same as for early Volkswagen bug.
356A tie rod end cone diameter is larger @ 14mm.

You can start by getting VW tie rods from Wolfsburg West. Both will be adjustable. They don't have the old non adjustable ones. Reproducing the non adjustable one would be a challenge. You will want new rod ends, which come with the WW ones-but the new ones lack the grease fitting. Basically I used the WW rods for material, particularly the left hand thread.
