Calling all 1955 coupes and cabriolets -- rocker panel trim

#1 Post by Brett Johnson »

The rocker panel trim (deco) was fitted to all production Speedsters, but wasn't on all 1955 model coupes and cabriolets. When they started is definitely after the first of the year in 1955. I need data points for authentic cars, please? What I have now is -- at best -- inconclusive.

'55 Hoffman delivered Continental coupe #53449 had rocker deco trim. I've always assumed the trim to be original, but the previous owner did cut the rear panel and install teardrops prior to my purchase of the car in 1972, so I suppose he could've added the deco trim. Car was completed May 10, 1955 per Kardex. Lucky for me he did save the beehive lenses, numbered bezels and fixtures!

Anything but definitive; a period photo from Jan '56 R&T showing Speedster style rocker molding on a Continental coupe. During the transition to the T1 and even earlier, this molding could have been a dealer installed option.
