Aluminum steering access covers

#1 Post by Brett Johnson »

Aside from Gläser cabriolets and America Roadsters, do any cars have aluminum steering access covers in front of the fuel tank?

I'm not exactly sure what you are looking for, but my '59 Carrera has aluminum access covers in the vertical panel, rear of the spare tire well. The nearly horizontal panel in front of the fuel tank is the usual steel but is drilled for the GT fuel tank strap anchor.

Hi Brett, I believe the smooth aluminum steering access covers were replaced with perimeter swaged steel ones when the spare wheel position was changed from laying flat to standing up. This eliminated both, Battery compartment aluminum covers and steering access aluminum covers and of course adding the steel spare wheel horn at this point in time.
