Export bumpers -- Authenticity IV
I've moved on to body questions. The earliest car I have listed with export bumpers (formerly called interim bumpers) is cabriolet #10075. I'd be interested in learning about other early examples and would like color photos of original ones with trim, regardless of condition. There are various different trim components on these.
The attached factory photo is a new Model 52 car. Note that the trim, not the bumper guards are cut on this example.
Were any of these cars sold to non-US destinations?

You know, I don't know for sure, but suspect that and also that guards are always (there's that word again) present on cars sent to the US. I'm sure more than one style of guard was used.
I have photos of three different trim (deco) styles. The perimeter trim around the bumper is definitely not on earlier examples and likely didn't survive well. That will be hard to document.
Need color photos for publication!

There is one record of an interim bumper car destined for South America, Brett. #10210 (March 1952) was sold new to Argentina with 'Verst. Stoßstangen'. I'll check what i have on the earliest one.

Some of the trim ends were rounded, like VW bus ends. Others ends were cut with aluminum ends added that mimicked the profile (rubber and all). My car, 10266, has both types. See pic:

Can you take detail photos? I have images of both, but not in color. 356drb@indy.net
Have also seen trim with much wider rubber part.

Re: Export bumpers -- Authenticity IV
Most of these cars with export bumpers went to Hoffman, but some famously stayed in Germany or went elsewhere.
The pair of cars sent to Mexico for the 1952 Carrera Panamericana were both export bumper cars with 528 motors and 519 gearboxes. These went through the Mexico importer, Hohenlohe.

Another export-bumper coupe went to Canada.
The Paris Salon 1952 show car on the Porsche stand was an export bumper cabriolet.
Others pop up. See photos below.

Just noticed at European Collectibles yesterday, a nice 1952 split window cab #10266, claimed to be fourth from last split window cab. They also claim a total of 40 split cabs with US export interim bumpers:

Great photos - thanks George.
Interesting, 10266 ('51 built in '52) is the chassis no. of Drew Ogden's car toward the top of this thread.
I thought the earlier signal lights were inboard a bit until the '53 model when they were centered below the headlights?
