Re: Hella headlight glass for 1953 july
The bucket is for a U.S.-specification, sealed beam headlight assembly, so neither lens is correct.
Since this bucket is date-coded for the 7th week in 1953 (07L), it likely was assembled with the super-rare "wavy" lens (see p. 57 of the March-April 2020 356 Registry magazine). This lens is nearly impossible to find, in any condition. The clear, 60370-1, small logo lens, used between ~late 1953 (lights date-coded 38L) and early 1956, is available as a reproduction.
Of the two fluted lenses pictured, the upper lens is believed to be pre-1955, as it is missing the "A" and "NL" markings. The bottom lens is likely 1959-60 or later, assuming it is symmetric, as it has the part number (21334) on the face.
The chrome rim, with the single rivet and Hella logo, is correct through mid-1954.
