What is the knob for above the e-brake handle?

Thanks

It is the hand pump for the windshield washer. Should have a K on the knob.

Thanks George!

My 53 doesn't have windshield washers which explains why I don't have this knob.

Thanks again
Frank

George, The windshield washer on a '53 should have an aluminum knob with no marking, the plastic "W" knob was a later pump, '54 or '55 "K" might have been VW aftermarket...I think James went into great detail on the knob and pump awhile back, you can probably search for his discussion.

Thanks Alan !! Sorry that I posted in error about the letter on the knob. Seems like almost every year these cars had subtle changes.

Shouldn't the Gooding Cab have at least one sun visor though????

Good eye Paul. Yes, it should have two sun visors - the early hex type.

Steve Harrison wrote: But my Kardex has the notation for optional equipment:

It’s the only option listed.
It’s a Continental, and if those are standard,...why listed?
You're right Steve, they were not standard, just common. I don't know what percentage of Continentals had them. But quite a few. Some Continentals also had the chrome wheels, another way Porsche dressed up the cars.

Still, many options are not listed in the Kardex documents, and with the pre-As, it's a crap-shoot as to which is or is not listed.

The barn find junk 55 speedster sold for 190k. Not much left of it and heavily modified.
